💙 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT 💛 Christi Roorda BS ‘07 MBA ‘13 is the Operations Director at Praxair, Inc., in Buffalo, New York. She majored in Marketing and Management as well as pursued an MBA in Supply Chain while attending Canisius.
As an undergrad, Christi was a part of Canisius College Rowing which she has fond memories of training in the early mornings, rushing back to campus for early classes, and traveling to races all over the Northeast. She mentions, “Participating in the rowing team forced me to learn the skills of time management and work (school) life balance.”
Since graduation, Christi has served on the Canisius Alumni Board, Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association, and Treasurer of the Investment Recovery Association Board. She also serves as the Head Coach of a local rowing program, We Can Row, to help female cancer survivors. The advice she would give to current students and young alumni is “The amount of effort you put in now will equal the results you receive later.”

💙 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT 💛 Lauren Leavy ‘12 is the Strategic Event Producer for Virginia Commonwealth University Development and Alumni Relations in Richmond, Virgina. As an undergraduate student at Canisius, she majored in Communications Studies and Digital Media Arts. Lauren was also a part of the student programming board which gave her the experience in event planning that sparked her interest in pursuing it as a profession. “I didn’t know it could be a career. I always wanted to get involved in higher education and here I am working for a university and planning events,” Lauren mentions.
The advice she would give to current students or young alumni is to get involved and try new things. She said, “I remember when the slogan was “Where Leaders are Made” and I took that to heart and put myself out there. I was in multiple leadership roles while I was a student.” She currently is the 2nd Vice President on the Canisius Alumni Association Board of Directors. Introducing one of the Women of Canisius panelists, Teresa Amabile ‘72, HON ‘97, Ph.D who will be speaking at the “How to Plan, Execute and Savor Retirement” Webinar on March 24th at 6:00 pm. Teresa will present her guidance for planning and enjoying retirement, based on seven years of research into the psychological and social aspects of this life-changing transition.
Teresa is a Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School. She is currently leading a study on Americans’ experience of transitioning to retirement. Her work has appeared in a variety of journals and books such as The Social Psychology of Creativity (1983). She has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. Teresa holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Canisius College and a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University.
