Mortar Board Honor Society - University at Buffalo Mortar Board, Inc., a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship,leadership and service.

Mortar Board prides itself on selecting the best and brightest scholars in the US, creating an organization that is rooted in devotion to scholarship, leadership and service. Whether candidates are looking for service experience, an outlet
for using your leadership skills, or a chance to bond with like-minded students, Mortar Board offers a variety of ways to actively participate. A certain respon

sibility is paired with acceptance into Mortar board, one that requires members to be an integral part of the future of the organization, contributing to both the local chapter and the community. Membership in this
organization is a great source of pride for nearly a quarter of a million initiates, and provides an experience that extends far beyond the college years. UB LAUNCH (Leaders As Undergraduate Noted for College Honors) was founded July-August 1990, at the University at Buffalo. UB, through 1967, did have two senior honor societies, Bisonhead and Cap and Gown. As these no longer
existed, it seemed appropriate to establish an organization on campus which would promote and recognize excellence and reward a group of exceptional students. In April 1993, UB LAUNCH became one of two-hundred Mortar Board
chapters. Mortar Board is committed to taking a leadership role on campus. The Emerging Leaders Forum was an annual project which we have implemented since 1991-1992 to encourage involvement and address leadership issues within the
University community. Some activities that we have been involved with include benefits for the United Way, AIDS awareness, Ronald McDonald House, Compass House, Relay For Life, St. Luke’s Mission, Making Strides Against Breast
Cancer, and the Linda Yalem Safety Run.
