Call for Participants in a Public Artwork - City Lights Orchestra for MediaCities:
Antoine Schmitt’s City Lights Orchestra is a visual symphony for city windows, being presented as part of the 2013 MEDIACITIES international conference. On the first weekend in May, the city of Buffalo will come alive with pulsating flashing and fading lights. Each individual light pulses according to its own score, but all come together in one shared symphony of light.
You can participate in the orchestra!
All you need is an internet connection and a screen – it can be a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or computer.
Do you have access to a window facing the street on the blocks surrounding 743 Main Street?
Even better! Invite neighbors, friends and colleagues and create your own city lights ensemble!
How to participate:
On Friday May 3, Saturday May 4, and Sunday May 5...
-Go to www.citylightsorchestra.net
-The symphony pulsates in the web page
-Face your device towards a light surface, go out on the street, and enjoy!*
*The effect works best if the screen on your device is pointed at a light colored wall, the ceiling or another surface opposite the window. Alternatively, you can point the device at a window that is covered with a light colored curtain or white paper to diffuse the light. Don’t point your device outwards, as the light will get lost. The symphony URL will be active two weeks before the opening, so you can run a test to find the best effect. Make sure to switch off any screensavers or energy-saving settings and maximize the screen size.
