This is an AMAZING FREE resource. It is all 16 Torchlighters episodes on DVD along with an 144-page activity book! 🙌

Torchlighters is an animated series on heroes of the Christian faith. Some episodes may be a little intense for the youngest viewers, as they involve martyrs, but there is nothing super gory. We have loved the Torchlighters series for years but we’ve always streamed them online. If you still have a DVD player than this is a wonderful free resource to take advantage of!

🥳I am SO EXCITED to finally share about this new curriculum created by Classical Conversations Inc that I was able to preview and try with our family for the past 6 months! This is geared towards 4-8 year olds, but I believe it’s actually a perfect resource to do with your WHOLE family. Easy to follow, I love this open-and-go book that does the thinking for me and I can just follow the “cookbook” and help to grow our appetite for learning! This pairs perfectly with your weekly memory work, or use as a stand alone classical curriculum. Use many of the recipes or use it sparingly, either way it’s a valuable tool to have in your schooling toolbox! 🙂

🎉On Monday, October 3rd, 2022 we officially hit our goal for this year! The challenge that we started on the first of this year, was quickly jump started when we spent most of that month in sunny ☀️ Florida. After a couple challenging winter 🥶 months here in Buffalo, we forced ourselves to spend as much time as we could in the fresh air. One of my favorite parts of homeschooling is that *anywhere* can become our classroom and I love that we finished the last couple hours doing our schoolwork at our favorite local park while mostly working up in a tree. They picked the tree on a little island, they helped bring the stroller across, they took up the Bluetooth speaker and they recited their memory work while 10ft in the air. They did their reading and math near the waterfall, sprawled out on the bench and we listened to scripture and poetry recitation while on our walk back. The has been a fun and motivating way to be in nature, get that fresh air and vitamin D, and explore our beautiful world. 🔦Sight Word Fun🔦

Do your kids fight you about sight word practice? Are the flash cards feeling blah and mundane?! Just write the sight words on some sticky memo notes, stick them under your dining room table, lay day and grab a flashlight…and voila! Kids loved laying on the floor with their feet up, shining the light on the words they were reading & taking them down after they said the word. I know it takes a little extra time, but it definitely shifted the mood in the air & they were much happier to practice!

Disclaimer: I have *at least* one child that is definitely a right-brain learner (aka and did you know it’s hereditary?! So, once I found out my husband and I have mild/moderate at a homeschool conference, it was like a lightbulb 💡 went off! Wow! It made a lot of sense about how we learn & the tools we can use to help ourselves and our kids learn!)

🍎 First Day of 2nd Grade (Lena), Kindergarten (Nigel), & “TA”-Teachers Assistant (Lyra) here at the Cozy Cottage Schoolhouse! Can’t believe it’s our 4th year homeschooling already & our 4th year doing ! I’m tutoring the Master’s class at our CC Community again this year with a focus on the Middle Ages (hence the prop 😁). Our first day had a little extra “excitement” besides our silly string wars and ice cream…Nigel had a bicycle accident and did a face plant. Thankfully he didn’t need stitches and no teeth were lost 🙌 but had some nice little battle wounds for his first day of CC yesterday! 🤪
