Last month I had a bout of neck and shoulder pain brought on by an old injury.
It was the pits - it was heavy, annoying, and tiring. It made it hard to focus and it was sapping my mood.
So I turned to my ayurvedic yoga therapy tools, and they helped.
One of the many reasons Iβm in love with yoga is its remarkable capacity to re-establish balance in my body while at the same time, transforming the quality of my mind.
Not only was I able to ease my pain and discomfort, but I freed up a load of energy and felt immediately more positive and open.
Join me on Saturday for a morning of anatomy (physical and energetic), sequencing, and practice focused on the neck and shoulders. Great for yoga teachers and interested yoga students alike! π

Whatβs your Ayurvedic Stress Type?
Pretty much everyone gets stressed, but how it shows up varies.
Knowing your Type, or your Ayurvedic Constitution, helps you better understand yourself, AND sheds light on how to customize your stress management.
π₯ Fiery yogis can learn how to cut themselves some slack, take it down a notch, and cool their intensity.
πͺοΈ Nervous yogis can learn how to ground, soothe, and find their courage.
ββββπͺ¨ Quiet yogis can learn how to gently engage and express their needs.
You might see more than one of these tendencies in yourself. Reflect on what happens first. I tend to get nervous first, then quiet or irritated depending on the situation.
I start all my clients with an Ayurvedic Intake Session where they learn about their unique stress type. From there we tweak their yoga practice, daily routine, and mindset so they can reduce overwhelm, and have more energy.

Who needs more energy and less overwhelm?
Really, who doesnβt?!?
This is the common challenge that all my clients face. Energy is low and overwhelm is high due to one or more of the following:
π Burnout
π Chronic Anxiety and/or Depression
π Menopausal Hormone Shifts
π Grieving a Loss
It continues to amaze and surprise me how quickly a regular routine and daily mindfulness practice decrease your overwhelm, increase your energy, and give you back a sense of control over your life.
Alignment with nature works.
Hereβs what a recent client shared after 3 days of shifting her eating routine and adding in a daily breathing practice.
β Thank you, Sarah! I have started adjusting my routine with drying brushing, eating times, and using crocodile pose in the afternoon. Energy levels are better!! Look forward to working with you.β - Recent Yoga Lifestyle Design Client

Creating a yoga lifestyle is about creating new habits.
My students and clients WANT to make yoga lifestyle a part of their life. The desire is there, but βlifeβ keeps getting in the way.
Expecting and managing the overwhelm and resistance that inevitably comes, is one of the keys to success.
You can learn to move forward WITH the resistance, which is called Tapas in yoga.
What gets in the way for you? π

When I work with clients, I am always reminded of how simple and powerful Ayurvedic wisdom can be.
A recent client was struggling with significant discomfort after eating. I suggested she cut down on cold raw foods (like salad and smoothies), and add in more warm cooked foods. Cold raw foods can be hard to digest if your digestive strength has weakened.
Itβs not that these foods arenβt nutritious. But they need to be able to be properly digested in order to be nourished by them.
Ayurveda looks not only at what you are eating, but how well you are digesting it.
It offers strategies to both eat for balance and to improve your digestive strength, or Agni. In this client's case, those strategies reduced her stomach discomfort dramatically!
Have you experienced improved digestion with the help of Ayurveda? What helped the most? Share in the comments below. π

In my 20 years of learning and living Yoga, Iβve found Yoga Lifestyle Design to be a 3 fold process:
πYoga Lifestyle begins with SELF-CARE, on and off the mat.
It's showing up to do your regular yoga practice and creating a daily routine guided by the principles of Ayurveda -- itβs learning how to prioritize YOU.
π Yoga Lifestyle evolves through SELF-EMPOWERMENT as you develop a yoga mindset.
Practicing yoga increases your awareness of the inherent joy and love in your life. It also makes you aware of your negativity and self-limitations.
Yoga philosophy offers a path to contemplate and gently transform those limitations -- making room for more joy and emotional freedom.
π Yoga Lifestyle deepens with SPIRITUAL GROWTH as you experience a sense of wholeness and connection on your mat.
Yoga is a spiritual practice. The ancient yoga teachings provide a blueprint on how to deepen that connection on the mat, in your meditation, and in your day-to-day life.
Over time, the focus of your yoga practice shifts between these 3 lanes on the path: self-care, self-empowerment, and spiritual growth. π
What lane is your practice in right now?
