Lt. Craig Lehner Scholarship

As Mayor of the City of Buffalo, I join our entire community in honoring and remembering the life and legacy of Lt. Craig Lehner — a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on this day in 2017.

Lt. Lehner served the Buffalo Police Department and our city with unmatched courage, professionalism, and heart — as an officer, K9 handler, member of the Underwater Recovery Team, soldier, and friend. His dedication to protecting others and his love for this community will never be forgotten.

Today and always, we remember his service, his sacrifice, and the lasting impact he made on Buffalo.

Thank you to Buffalo Police Commissioner Alphonso Wright, Mayor Christopher Scanlon, Liuetenant Karen Turello and all of the Western NY men and women in law enforcement who made this brave young man's day a special one.

12-year-old boy lives out his dream, becomes Buffalo police officer for a day Buffalo police gave a 12-year-old boy from Pennsylvania a day to remember as he became an officer for the day.

Thank you again to Cal Harte and the Cheektowaga Police Department for their donation to the scholarship fund! Craig's sister, Donna, went and met them at the station and got a full tour!!

Our most recent Lt. Craig Lehner Scholarship recipient requested a tour of Buffalo police Department's headquarters building and it was granted plus alot more. Mohamed was taken on a tour of Buffalo Police Headquarters, B district station house, Erie County Crime analysis center and Erie County CPS emergency dispatch and was provided an invaluable opportunity to learn firsthand what each does, straight from the men and women working in each unit/department visited.

Scholarship awarded in memory of Buffalo Police officer Craig Lehner The scholarship was created to help those wanting to go into careers of criminal justice, law, and political science.

We're excited to announce that we have officially selected a recipient for the 2024 Lt. Craig Lehner Scholarship!

This year's awardee will be announced during a ceremony tomorrow in observation of Lt Lehner's end of watch and celebration of his life, service and legacy.

On October 13, 2017, Officer Craig Lehner went into the water at Broderick Park at 12:45 p.m.

A community would mourn the loss of an outstanding son, brother, officer, friend, soldier and hero.

This month we will remember and honor the legacy of Lt Craig Lehner with the awarding of his scholarship to ensure that quality young men and women who pursue careers in criminal justice, law and political science fields receive support and encouragement to experience their dreams and positively impact our WNY community just as Craig had.

We will never forget. We will always remember.
