Throughout the years being married to a public school teacher, I was always pretty confident that non-teachers had no idea how difficult teaching can be. More than a few told me how fun my wife’s job must be. There were many aspects that were fun. But by-and-large teaching was difficult. The days were long for her and the other teachers, the classes sizes were large. On many occasions I would think: I wish more knew how difficult her job was. And then for the worst possible reason, many of us found out when all of a sudden learning took place at our kitchen tables.

Teachers had like 5 minutes to savor the satisfaction of wide-spread understanding of something they always knew: teaching is hard. Within days it got even harder. Teachers were forced to pivot to online instruction. Imagine doing your job one way, and then within days you are told to do it an entirely different way. That is what teachers were asked to do at the start of the pandemic and are continuing to do today. They tailor their instruction not only to meet the needs of in person students but also to reach distance learners as well. They continue to make connections and build relationships, which is the cornerstone of their work. Teachers have always been critical to our society. But in today’s world it is more obvious just how essential they truly are.

Well done, teachers. You’re my hero.

In response to recent accusations of my being in the "back pocket" of the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Teachers' Union:

My campaign is in no way based on political drive. My decision to run for the BHM School Board is 100% driven by my interest to serve the children of BHM Schools. While I am proud and honored to have the support of the teachers--knowing that teachers are the backbone of the schools--my passions lie in providing the best opportunities for the students of BHM Schools.

I encourage all voters to research the candidates and vote according to their own personal values. The Wright County Journal Press and the BHM District Insider will be publishing information on all candidates in the upcoming weeks.

Let's refrain from personal attacks and focus, instead, on what's best for the BHM community.

Our school custodians make such a difference! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Show some LOVE ❤️ and appreciation today for our OUTSTANDING BHM School District Custodians for National Custodian Appreciation Day! These ROCKSTARS are the ones who keep our buildings clean and safe, and our grounds trimmed and maintained. They are the ones keeping our buildings clean and sanitized during COVID-19 allowing our students and staff to be in a safe environment. THANK YOU BHM Custodians for ALL you do!

Parents, students, and teachers: The day is here (and again tomorrow...and Monday)!

Good luck to all school staff members. We greatly appreciate the work you have done to prepare for our students to return to a safe and loving school environment.
