There’s a reason DMM is headquartered at 10,150 feet. While the Front Range and the desert bake through late summer, Leadville sits in the 70s with the windows open.

That’s not just comfort. A five-day course is real work, and doing it in cool, high mountain air beats grinding through it in a parking lot at 98 degrees. Swipe for why we train where we do, and the upcoming Leadville courses.

Our September Leadville Wilderness First Responder runs September 16 to 20, five days at 10,150 feet with the aspens turning and the air going crisp. 🍂

The WFR is the certification that takes you from bystander to responder. You leave this course able to run a patient assessment, make a call when there’s no cell signal and no ambulance coming, and manage the hours between an injury and definitive care. Nationally recognized, taught to WMEC standards, with the hands-on field time to make the skills stick.

Leadville in the fall is beautiful and honest about what the backcountry asks of you, which is exactly why it’s a good place to learn to work in it.

Your EMS training assumes a truck, a radio, and a hospital are minutes out. In the backcountry setting, none of those may be available for hours or days.

The Wilderness EMS Upgrade is built for licensed EMS providers (think EMT’s, paramedics, nurses, etc.)  who work, volunteer, or play where definitive care is hours away instead of minutes.

Four days in Leadville translating the protocols you already know into austere settings: long patient contact, improvised resources, evacuation decisions, and the judgment that comes with distance and weather.

CAPCE-accredited, so it counts toward your continuing education.

Not everyone can disappear into the mountains for a week to certify. This October we’re running a Wilderness First Responder in Lakewood, right in the Denver metro.

Same WMEC standards, same five days of hands-on field work that build skills into muscle memory. The WFR takes you from “I hope someone here knows what to do” to being the person who does: able to assess a patient, make a plan when help is far off, and care for a patient in the time before they reach definitive care.

Our Wilderness First Responder in the red rock around Indian Creek runs September 7 to 12, near Monticello, Utah.

Camping at the site is included⛺️, so you learn, eat, and sleep in the same landacape you work and recreate in. This is austere medicine in its actual setting: remote desert canyon, removed from cell service, a backcountry setting where terrain may not cooperate.

Same nationally recognized WFR and the same WMEC standards as our other courses, in a place that’s a real looker. Nights are nice and cool, and the day is warm enough to bring a tank top. Perfect!

If your certification just needs renewing, the two-day Recert runs right after, September 13 to 14. WFR September 7 to 12, Recert September 13 to 14. Monticello, UT.
