Independent reading happens every day for 10 minutes in our upper elementary classroom, and the kids look forward to it! 📚

They especially love our different reading themes, which make this time feel fun and exciting while helping them build a love for reading.

Sometimes, it’s the little routines that make the biggest impact!

Every day, we come together as a school community for different activities, but a big part of our time together is dedicated to social-emotional learning, communication, and teamwork.

This day, our challenge was simple… or so we thought! 😂 The students had to work together to draw a smiley face. Each student held onto a string attached to a marker, and they had to communicate, listen to one another, problem-solve, and work as a team to figure out how they could successfully create the picture.

It definitely wasn’t easy! There were lots of laughs, a few frustrations, and plenty of trying again. But that’s exactly why we do activities like this.

Teamwork doesn’t always come naturally. Learning how to communicate respectfully, listen to others, manage frustration, compromise, and keep working toward a common goal are skills that take practice.

That’s why we intentionally incorporate structured activities that focus solely on social-emotional learning and teamwork. These moments give our students a safe space to practice those skills in real time. Learning how to work with others, navigate challenges, and understand ourselves and one another is such an important part of growing.

Mrs. Sarina is so great at making her lessons fun and interactive! We really try to make math more than just numbers, paper, and pencils. We want our kiddos to be able to move, explore, use their hands, and actually enjoy the learning process!

Math can be fun, and we love finding different ways to make our lessons engaging for our kiddos!
