I’m so proud of our world languages students. They’ve accomplished a lot this year. Today, though, I want to honor one of our teachers. Melly Johnson teaches ASL at Lehman High School. She’s also the department head. Out of the NINE ASL level 4 students she tested, SEVEN got the Global Seal of Biliteracy! That’s incredible! Congratulations to you and your students!

Oh, I love getting to visit Señora Brown’s classes at Jack C Hays High School. So many of my former students are thriving in her care. Well, they show off when I walk in, at least. I love the work I see in the hall, too. Spanish students are getting to show creativity and personality.

I started my day at our newest school, Ramage Elementary, with Señora Rodriguez. She had a 5th grade class in her Spanish Enrichment room. I learned about Colombia along with them as we saw cumbia dancing and learned about bandeja paisa and arepas, among other Colombian facts.

This morning I got to visit Señora Pablos Perez at McCormick. I enjoyed getting to participate in dialogues students wrote in class combining places and pastimes. We are blessed to have this teacher on loan from Spain. She’s pretty amazing!

I observed Señora Tedrick’s Spanish 1 class. She is such a talented educator. What a treat to get to see her in action! R.C. Barton Middle School
