My "Bailey" cousins and I are working on getting the Bailey School on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ruthie and I did some genealogy work this weekend in Albemarle County (Charlottesville, VA) and discovered a book on the Rothwells at the UVa library. In particular was this note about Claiborn Rothwell, whose granddaughter, Sarah Mildred Rothwell, married John P Bailey in 1842. John and Sarah moved to the western end of Virginia into what was formerly Barbour County (now Upshur) and settled on what is now called Bailey Ridge. John's son, William donated the land for the school house. Claiborn was a revolutionary war soldier and joined when he was 16. Thus, ALL of the Baileys descended from John P are eligible for either the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) or the Sons of the American Revolution :-) https://www.sar.org/

The 75th Annual Strawberry Festival kicks off this next week, be sure to visit our window display!! As a part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration, past pageant gowns are displayed throughout the downtown window displays. The Bailey School window features two children's gowns and a boys white suit.
