Our hearts are with everyone in Buckhannon, across Upshur County, and in communities throughout West Virginia impacted by these devastating storms and flooding. We know that members of the West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) family, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and neighbors, have been affected, and we are keeping them in our thoughts as recovery begins. We are especially grateful to the first responders and emergency personnel who continue to serve our community under impossibly difficult circumstances.
WVWC’s campus remains safe and operational, and experienced only minor storm-related impacts, including limited water intrusion in several campus buildings and off-campus houses, as well as damage to some fleet vehicles. WVWC’s Facilities and Grounds staff are working to assess and address these issues as quickly as possible.
Because WVWC is currently on summer break, there are a limited number of students, visitors, and activities on campus, and the immediate priorities are the well-being of our faculty, staff, students, and guests; providing community support where needed; and ensuring that those affected have access to appropriate resources.
As Buckhannon, Upshur County, and other surrounding areas begin the recovery process, WVWC stands ready to assist. WVWC leadership remains in close communication with local officials to determine how campus resources can best support coordinated response and recovery efforts.
WVWC will continue to monitor conditions closely and share updates as appropriate. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to follow the guidance of local emergency officials and prioritize safety.
