🚌 Bus Stop Safety Is a Shared Responsibility 🛑

Every school day, our students rely on families, bus operators, and motorists working together to ensure a safe trip to and from school. Bus stops are important places where patience and attention matter.

Drivers: When a school bus has its stop arm extended and red warning lights flashing, West Virginia law requires you to stop and remain stopped until the bus resumes motion, the driver signals you to proceed, or the warning lights are turned off.

Violating this law carries serious consequences:

⚠️ First offense: $500-$1,000 fine, possible jail time, and a 60-day license suspension.
⚠️ Second offense: $1,000-$1,500 fine, possible jail time, and a 180-day license suspension.
⚠️ Third or subsequent offense: $2,000 fine, jail time, and a one-year license suspension.

A little extra patience behind the wheel helps keep school transportation running safely and smoothly for everyone. Thank you for doing your part and stopping for the bus. 💛🚌

FETC would like to congratulate its September Student Spotlights, Gwen Rogosky and Mikey Kennedy! Gwen is a junior at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and is a student in our Sports Medicine program. Mr. Drew Mason, Sports Medicine instructor at FETC, shares that Gwen “is always attentive in class. She asks good questions and delivers well-thought-out answers in class. Gwen also scored very high on both the OSHA-10 and American Heart Association CPR/AED certification tests. She competes and has competed in cross country and track at B-UHS for the last two years. Gwen plans to major in exercise science in college.”

Mikey Kennedy is a member of the 2026 Practical Nursing Class at Fred Eberle Technical Center. The program coordinator, Mr Hines, states Mikey was chosen for the spotlight because he reflects the best attributes many non-traditional students bring to the practical nursing program. Mikey returned to the classroom to pursue nursing after spending many years in an industrial field not remotely related to healthcare. His desire to learn new things, ease in striking up a conversation with anyone, and desire to care for people and understand their health challenges have made him a great student to represent Fred W Eberle Technical Center, School of Practical Nursing. Mikey has a desire to work in the mental health environment and continue his education to pursue a registered nurse degree. Regardless of his nursing path, his patients will always receive excellent care and enjoy a good conversation.

Action packed week in Therapeutic Services this week! Students learned medical body planes, cavities and directions by drawing them out in life size wall hangings. They also learned the eukaryotic cell by building one from cookies and candy. Then to top the week off they went and represented FETC at a career fair at BUHS! Come see us at LCHS next week also.
