Odyssey is saddened to share the passing of one of its beloved leaders, Lorrese Roer. Lorrese joined Odyssey in 2016 as Principal of the organization's newest elementary school, Sienna Hills. She previously made an unforgettable impression as a passionate leader when she served as the principal of Odyssey's founders, back when they were teachers at Buckeye Elementary. To quote the founders, “we were absolutely honored when Lorrese Roer agreed to make the transition to Odyssey to open and run the Sienna Hills Campus."
Over her decade with Odyssey Sienna Hills, Lorrese made a lasting impression on scholars, parents, teachers, and staff alike with her direct yet compassionate style. She often said, "I love my job, and the day I don't, I'll be done" and she always knew just the right tone to strike.
True to her values, she stepped away from work quietly in the middle of the school year, choosing not to disrupt the learning environment with a drawn-out goodbye. She loved her job and the people in it far more than she wanted any fanfare. She leaves behind an organization that is deeply saddened by her departure, yet deeply grateful for more than 10 years of service by one of the best in education. Her compassion, life lessons, and zest for educating West Valley youth will live on in every life she touched.
Services will be Friday, July 3 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church Hall. Rosary will be at 10:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am, and Celebration of Life in the Hall directly following.
When school resumes, Odyssey will host a district-wide memorial celebration to honor Lorrese's life and legacy, giving scholars, families, and staff the opportunity to come together in remembrance of an extraordinary educator and leader.
We are holding the Roer family close in our hearts during this difficult time.
