Our Character Habit of the Month: EMPATHY

Students shared about what empathy is and how we can show it.

"Sometimes we don't know what someone else is going through. A classmate might be having a bad day, feeling left out, or dealing with a problem at home. A simple act of kindness, like listening, including someone, or saying something encouraging can make a big difference."

Community Connection: Nate Darnell, Darnell Farms

The students cheered loudly when Nate was introduced as our speaker at our Maroon Meeting. He talked about having empathy and what it can look like. Students connected with Nate because of his time spent at football practice and the many hayrides Swain County Schools have enjoyed over the years.
He showed an example of a simple acknowledgment of each other can go a long way. Thank you Nate for your time!
