The Shipley School, a Pre-Kindergarten through 12 coeducational day school, in Bryn Mawr, PA.

At Shipley, our #1 priority is how our students show up in the world. We move beyond the four walls of the classroom, preparing our pre-K-12 students to thrive in the world through competitive academics that drive personal discovery, global citizenship, and student and collective well-being.

🇪🇸 From language and literature to art, history, and local traditions, our students experienced the culture of Spain firsthand.

Each day began with four hours of Spanish instruction from university-level teachers, combining language study and conversation before students took those skills beyond the classroom. Students lived with Spanish host families, navigating daily life and experiencing the language and culture through true immersion.

🎸 Discovered how traditional Spanish guitars are made
🥘 Prepared tortilla de patatas
💃 Learned salsa & bachata
🏰 Explored historic Salamanca & Toledo
🎨 Saw masterpieces at the Prado
⚽ Visited Madrid’s Bernabéu Stadium
🎓 Stepped inside the 800-year-old University of Salamanca

Thank you to our host families and everyone who helped make this experience so meaningful.

¡Gracias, España!

This summer, 7th graders Ella and Addy traveled to California to join a research team at Caltech, studying young stars in the Perseus molecular cloud through NITARP, the NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program.

Working alongside professional astronomers and researchers, the two helped analyze data from NASA’s SPHEREx Telescope, sorting and studying 776 sources as part of an ongoing search for young stellar objects.

Throughout the week, they asked questions, shared their ideas, defended their findings, and even convinced the adults a few times along the way.

Their research will continue this year, with the team presenting its findings at the American Astronomical Society conference in Salt Lake City this winter.

🚧 A new chapter begins.

This week, the demolition of College Hall officially gets underway, marking a very visible step in Shipley’s long-term campus planning efforts. Following demolition, the site will provide 56 additional student parking spaces while we continue to thoughtfully plan its future as part of Shipley’s evolving campus vision. Thank you to our families and community for your continued partnership as we invest in spaces that will serve generations to come.

No gators were harmed in the making of this video. No TNT was used. College Hall remains in the capable hands of the demolition crew.
