Not every difficult behavior is defiance. Sometimes, it’s a child communicating that they’ve reached their limit. 💚
Refusing school. Meltdowns that last for hours. Aggression, withdrawal, or shutting down. Even physical symptoms that seem to disappear when the weekend arrives.
These behaviors can be signs of dysregulation and distress—not a child simply “choosing” to misbehave.
At Fáilte Academy, we believe the question shouldn’t just be “How do we stop this behavior?” It should be:
“What is this child trying to tell us?”
When we understand the need underneath the behavior, we can respond with connection, support, and the tools a child needs to feel safe and successful.

A name can tell a story. ❤️
Fáilte (pronounced fall-cha) is a Gaelic word meaning welcome and joy — and that meaning is at the heart of everything we do.
At Fáilte Academy, we believe children deserve a school where they feel welcomed, known, supported, and genuinely excited to learn.
Because school should be more than a place to learn.
It should be a place where children feel they belong.
Kinda chic to treat children like whole people.
Not projects to fix. Not behaviors to manage. Whole people — with nervous systems, opinions, bad days, and something to say about all of it.
That’s the whole model at Fáilte Academy. Low-demand doesn’t mean low-expectation — it means we lead with trust instead of control, and let belonging come first. Turns out when kids don’t have to perform regulation, they actually find it.

At Fáilte, we believe children don’t need to be pushed harder to learn. They need to feel connected, understood, and safe enough to be curious again.

Last week I got to attend the VELA Connect Conference in Washington, DC. 🎉
This year, Fáilte Academy was selected and funded by VELA — joining a network of over 5,000 microschool founders and indie education leaders across the country.
Small school. Big movement.
This conference reminded me that while Fáilte may be small, we are not alone. We’re part of a fierce, passionate community of founders who are fighting — right alongside us — to reimagine what’s possible for kids.

Tiny dots. Big discoveries. ⚛️
Our students built models of atomic nuclei using clay as we explored the structure of the atom. By creating protons and neutrons with their own hands, abstract science concepts became something they could see, touch, and understand.
At Fáilte Academy, we believe learning sticks when children actively create, question, and discover. Science isn't just something we read about—it's something we experience.
Every Monday is a full reset for Fáilte. The hall is used by the church on the weekends so we do a full physical reset but also each day, each week is a full start over for our kids.
We are just as excited to see them when they had a tough day the day before as we are when they had an amazing day. And we treat each day like this blank hall. It’s a do over.
Anyway- enough being cheesy from me 😂 and come with me as I get the hall ready on a Monday morning ❤️
