Chasing reflections is one of our favorite hobbies, acoustically speaking, of course. Whether we’re designing a sound system or solving a room acoustics puzzle, we believe good acoustic measurements are the best place to start. September has been a busy and exciting month for us! One of our projects involves improving sound coverage and speech intelligibility in a small house of worship. We created an EASE 3D model to ensure the new column loudspeaker will deliver clear, consistent sound throughout the space. Even though column loudspeakers have been around for a while, it’s surprising how many installations still get it wrong, just like in this picture. A recent project involved a house of worship that initially had a reverberation time of 3 seconds in the low mid frequencies, which could potentially increase to 4.2 seconds if the carpet were removed. The situation was further complicated by the fact that the space is also used as a gymnasium, limiting the options for acoustical treatment. Ultimately, we were able to design the acoustics to achieve a consistent 2-second reverberation time in most frequencies in an empty condition, using a reasonable quantity of absorber panels that stayed within budget. Our design also includes a future acoustic treatment upgrade/addition to further tidy up the low frequency. The impressive Danley sound system will perform exceptionally well with the new acoustics!

The picture shows our equipment setup for collecting acoustic data from the venue. EASERA was used along with our small Dodecahedron loudspeaker. The low-frequency signal was then separately measured using another loudspeaker, and the data is spliced around 200Hz. We measured reverberation time down to 63Hz by default.
