Quick story: I’m on sabbatical (yay!). I decided that when classes started that’s when I’d get into a serious schedule. Monday, I decided to take my last day before the semester to relax and get some fresh air. I took my laptop. I pick it up once I’m settled on some grass, and it feels weird. I turn it to the side and the bottom is popping out! I’m like “Damn, I gotta back this thing up 😅.” So, I do. I take it to the Help Desk; they’re like “Wow! You can’t keep using this.” Me: “Yea; that prob makes sense.” Then they tell me to take it to the Apple Store because it may get fixed faster but that they’ll prepare a loaner for me just in case. The Apple Store takes it to send away. The next morning, I go to work, pick up the loaner and hop on a flight. I’m able to do all the work I want to; keep up with my writing challenge schedule; and have some peace of mind.
Ok - why does this matter?
I remember when I was working on my dissertation and my laptop crashed. I was devastated. I’d lost everything, including months of work toward my dissertation. I was ready to drop out of school. I had no help and nowhere to go. God blessed me and sent an angel who was able to recover just my dissertation files and nothing else.
Moral of the story:
I am blessed and well-supported. This may seem small to some, but it is Huge to me. My schedule was not in any way interrupted, and I was able to handle and navigate this situation with ease, comfort, and a favorable outcome. I take nothing for granted; even the little things.

So glad to have finally made time to start this book, and it’s only fitting to do so during . The erasure of Black women is astonishingly normalized, but texts like these disrupt it. ✊🏾

I had the honor of delivering the Keynote Address for the 40th Annual Scholarship Banquet, on his actual birthday! One of Dr. King’s teachings I drew on was “dangerous unselfishness,” which encourages us to be deliberate and radical in our support of each other. Humbled and inspired are just two words to describe the experience, and I look forward to the continued community that we will build together.

Grades are finally in, and I’m excited to relax! It was so great to be back in the classroom and to feel everyone’s energy, but I’m looking forward to the love of nothingness for the next few days 🥰🙌🏾
Swipe for the cutest gift from one of my students.

I have learned so much from bell hooks about myself, my purpose, my passion, and my practice. Her impact on me and this world is just life-changing and life-giving. I am so saddened that we won’t get to experience new ways to learn more from her, but I feel so blessed because of and by all she’s done!

🤗 If your students don’t make you smile like this, get some new ones! 😅
