Bold Summers

This past weekend we wrapped up our final program for 2026, Engineering Summer Academy at Penn! This group brought so much energy and curiosity to every lab, activity & trip. What an incredible way to close out the summer! 🤍

Fun fact: your eye sees the world upside down, and your brain flips it right-side up in real time 🧠👁️ This lecture had our Penn Medicine Summer cohort exploring the incredible science of ophthalmology from retinal function to the science behind 20/20 vision.

As our Penn Medicine & PACT Summer Programs wrap up, we want to give a huge shoutout to our incredible summer staff! From leading trips to making sure every student had the best summer ever, your hard work and heart made it all possible. Thank you for everything you do, we couldn't have done it without you! 🎉❤️

Did you know? The same sound wave technology used in medical ultrasounds is also used by bats and dolphins to "see" the world through echolocation 😎 This summer, our Penn Medicine Summer Program students traded textbooks for transducers, scanning, interpreting images, and discovering what it really takes to work in diagnostic imaging.

Somewhere in this room is a future cardiologist, ER doctor, or nurse practitioner. This summer, our Penn Medicine Summer Program students took their first hands-on steps toward that future in the Basic Skills Lab, practicing stethoscope use, blood draws, and tourniquet application 🩺

Fun fact: Laparoscopic surgeons rely on 2D screens to perform in 3D space, which takes serious hand-eye coordination! Our summer program students spent the day testing their skills in the sim lab 🎯
