One of Duke University’s newest Anesthesiology residents, Dr. Aaron Bennett ’26 is providing critical care when patients need it most.

“My experience in combat in Afghanistan showed me that I was able to take care of some pretty crazy injuries under some pretty dangerous scenarios,” he says.

Inspired by the unwavering leadership he witnessed downrange, Dr. Bennett is committed to leaving his mark on medicine—not only through exceptional care, but also by teaching the next generation of physicians 👨‍🏫✏️📚

Meet Dr. Aaron Bennett, Class of 2026, and matched at Duke University’s prestigious Anesthesiology Residency! Supported by military experience as a former U.S. Army medic and the clinical autonomy he embraced while training, Dr. Bennett is creating a lasting impact in the world of medicine.

“My main preceptor had a lot of trust in what I was able to do,” he says. “He got to the point where he knew my capacity, so I was able to intubate, throw in lines, and administer medications with his quiet oversight.”

We’re proud to share that Dr. Samba Reddy has been named a University Distinguished Professor, the university’s highest faculty honor.

His work is helping move neuroscience beyond managing symptoms to treating root causes, with therapies already changing how conditions like epilepsy and postpartum depression are treated.

Two of our researchers, Dr. Rahul Srinivasan and Dr. Michelle Hook, are focusing on the critical transition from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia—the moment where change may still be possible.

By bringing together expertise in disease progression, pharmacology and behavior, they're exploring how brain circuits shape who declines and who remains stable and how earlier intervention might shift that path.

New research from the lab of Dr. Jun Wang shows that the same type of brain cells can store both the memory that drives alcohol use and the one that helps suppress it. These pathways compete, shaping behavior in real time.
