Creativity meets technology at Bowdoin.

Jack Stoland (Bowdoin ’28) designed a custom instrument that transforms hand and fingers motion and positioning into sound/music using a motion-tracking system (Motion-into-MIDI). By translating physical gestures directly into sound, Jack is developing this piece as part of the Bowdoin Electroacoustic Ensemble.

Projects like this explore how performance, composition, and technology can merge into entirely new musical instruments and artistic practices.
