Teresa Gillis - Brunswick School Board

I had my final full Brunswick School Board meeting last week. This was my parting statement.....

I am very proud of my time on the Brunswick School Board. These past 6 and a half years I have stayed true to my core belief.....that you must keep every decision you make in education - CHILD CENTERED. Centered around making the best choice for EVERY CHILD to have the opportunity to succeed.

As a board we have accomplished many important goals. I have appreciated that this board has approached difficult and complex matters with great thought, balance, and with all student's wellbeing in mind.

I am grateful that my time on the board has truly taught me how to better hear all sides of an issue. To see things from other people's perspectives, that are at times very different from my own.

I am also thrilled that I was a part of hiring Dr. Phil Potenziano as our Superintendent. I feel very confident in his abilities to continue leading the Brunswick School District into a positive and productive future. Phil not only has all the technical skills and knowledge for the job, but he also most importantly has a kind and caring heart.

I would like to extend my best wishes to Erica and her beautiful family who are my neighbor and I am lucky to see often for a chat when they walk by my house.

I am looking forward to enjoying my last year and a half as a Brunswick School District parent (mom...ahh). Thank you to everyone who has given me their support and have sent me kind words of encouragement over the years.

Most importantly, I want to thank my family who have been my constant support, and have forgiven all my missed dinners, bed times, etc. And have endured my complaints, worries, anger, and sadness.

Here is the latest plan for school opening times in Brunswick starting Monday, August 30th.

"I love being a part of the Brunswick community. I ran for school board six years ago because it was time for positive, progressive change. I have enjoyed moving Brunswick schools forward by implementing and supporting curriculum, policies and initiatives that are child centered and create the opportunity for ALL students to be successful.

I will not be running for a third term on the school board. It is now time for me to open the door to new opportunities and life adventures. I am grateful and honored to have served the Brunswick school community. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my six years on the board."

Three seats each on Brunswick town council and school board up for grabs Council Chair John Perreault will not seek re-election after serving 12 years on the council.
