Bowdoin College Afro-Latin Music Ensemble

Calentando chonta y quemando cuero en el país de la nieve... This evening’s concert features music from two different regional traditions in Colombia.

Bowdoin’s Afro-Latin American Music Ensemble is dedicated to educating Bowdoin students and community about the cultural legacy and social realities of the descendants of Africans in Latin America. The students, many of whom do not have a previous musical background, learn to play a repertoire of Afro-Latin American secular and spiritual genres. The Ensemble is the only collegiate group outside of Colombia to perform the music of Colombia's Pacific coast.
