As the week comes to a close, I want to highlight a few of previous career paths that have helped to influence aspects of my personal and professional development.The transferable skills that I have learned over the years have shaped how I operate in business as well.

Some of those skills include:

* Establishing SOP's, guidelines, and expectations for myself and clients
*Proper documentation and storage of information
*Client confidentiality
*Being firm, fair, yet considerate of others and their needs
*Consistency in my business practices that includes services and uniforms
* Clear and professional communication
* High-level level sanitation and infection control
standards of care
* Customer service skills
*Workplace Safety
*Etc...

These are just a few! In the past, I have been critiqued that my protocols were too "straight laced," and that's ok. The majority of my clients have an appreciation for those protocols and the attentiveness of details that are often overlooked.

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks as I highlight these skills more thoroughly and help you recognize how and when your transferrable skills can help you in your home and business.

Looking forward to attending Premiere Orlando this year. I always enjoy taking the educational classes, trying new products, meeting other professionals, admiring the creativity of others, trying new product samples and the excitement of the competitions.

My first visit was in 2017 a few weeks after finishing nail tech school. At the event I was able to receive one-on-on training with Tammy Taylor and her team. My business card was selected in a class drawing and I won a free kit full of nail products. I also bumped into one of the judges who recognized me from the SkillsUSA competition I participated in a few months prior.

Each year I visit, it's a different experience and I have learned a lot along the way. Some of the top things that I have learned to help me have a smooth and enjoyable experience is to:

1. Research information about the event. This includes ticket cost, event location, parking, classes, etc. It helps to know what to expect.

2. Plan as much as possible in advance. This includes what products to buy, travel, accommodations, food, etc. This helps to avoid overspending, be less overwhelmed, and enjoy more of the show.

3. Budget to know how much the trip will cost. This includes travel, gas, ticket prices, parking fees, competition fees, etc.

4. Pack your bags early. This includes medications, professional clothing, money, a variety of things for the road and the event, etc.

5. Prepare for the show. This includes getting good rest, having your show bag ready, directions to the event, etc.

These are just a few things that have helped me prepare for each beauty trade show event I attend. Hope this information helps as you make your beauty trade show plans.
