✨Alumni Spotlight ✨

Sherri Land '10 graduated with a bachelor of science in elementary education. Since graduating, Sherri has been teaching 4h grade science and social studies. The last 13 years, she has been in Brownwood ISD.

Sherri was recently named Region 15 Teacher of the Year. When asked what this award meant to her, she said, "this award is meaningful because it reminded me that the work we do everyday matters. Recognition like this is a wonderful reminder of the impact educators can have on their students and their communities."

Sherri believes HPU prepared her for much more than just becoming a teacher. It taught her the importance of relationships, service, hard work, and making a difference in the lives of others. She believes the professors at HPU genuinely cared about their students and pushed them to become the best educators they could be.

Sherri is married to her husband, Nathan, and they have two daughters, Kylee and Kenley.

Junior Jackets Club is back for another year of fun and unique opportunities for kids of all ages to be involved at HPU and learn what it means to be a Yellow Jacket! Ages newborn to 18 are invited to join. Membership is $25 per child per year. Each child will receive a t-shirt, lanyard, birthday card, and access to exclusive events. Register by September 11, 2026, to receive your t-shirt at our Homecoming registration table.

Over 35 alumni volunteers came to town last weekend and helped pack 350 Welcome Bags to pass out to new and returning HPU students. These bags are filled and distributed to students all across campus. Then, we had the chance to serve the freshman Jacket Journey participants and their leaders during our Ice Cream Social. We are so thankful for the alumni who took time to come to campus and give back our students. Sting 'em!

Alumni & friends are invited to HPU Women's Club Sweet Life on Tuesday, August 25 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Newbury Welcome Center. We will have a sweet time of fellowship and treats, plus a special program on prayer and a presentation about a new prayer ministry on campus. Please share and invite your girlfriends! All female friends - staff, faculty, community and alums are encouraged to participate! 💙💛

Registration is now open for Homecoming 2026! Make plans now to join us October 2-3 for a weekend of fun activities for all ages. The Stinger Pass is a great deal for Saturday's events. For $20, you receive admission to a breakfast of your choice, the HPU Family Picnic, and the football game. Other weekend highlights include the Alumni Banquet, the Homecoming Parade, reunions, Little Jackets Nest, "The Lightning Thief, The Percy Jackson Musical ", presented by the HPU School of Education and Fine Arts and more. We had a great night at the ballpark on Friday night cheering on the Rangers and making connections with over 70 HPU alumni, students, and incoming students! The Rangers winning made it even more fun. Thank you to those who came. Sting 'em Jackets!

The Alumni Association needs your help for Welcome Back to HPU Day for new and returning students on Saturday, August 15. There are two opportunities to serve - packing welcome bags with treats for students from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. or serving at the Ice Cream Social from 2:00 to 4:15 p.m. in the Welcome Center. It would be great to have a large group of alumni on campus to welcome these students and encourage them to have a great year!
