Down by the Border celebrating 36th year of ADA!!!

Photos from Down By The Border's post 07/27/2026

On Monday, July 27, we invite our entire community to stand with us as we celebrate the 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—a landmark civil rights law that reminds us that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the chance to fully participate in community life. This is more than an anniversary. It is a celebration of every individual who has broken barriers, every family who refused to give up, every advocate who spoke up, and every community member who chose inclusion over indifference.
Join us at Lone Star National Bank (corner of Paredes Line Road & FM 802) 5:30pm, for a community rally. Bring your handmade signs, wear your biggest smile, and if you’re driving by, honk your horn in celebration. Every honk is a reminder that our community believes in equality, accessibility, and inclusion for all. Together, we’ll celebrate how far we’ve come—and recommit ourselves to the work that still lies ahead. Because accessibility is not a privilege. Inclusion is not a favor. They are civil rights.
Let’s make our voices heard. Let’s fill the intersection with hope, pride, and unity.
Bring a sign. Bring a friend. Bring your voice. And let’s celebrate 36 years of the ADA together. 💛🧡🩷💚💜🩵💙♿

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms that define who we are. As we gather with family, watch fireworks, and proudly wave our flag, let us also remember that the story of America is one of continually expanding freedom, opportunity, and dignity for everyone.
For individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, the journey toward true independence, inclusion, and acceptance continues. Every accessible playground, every inclusive classroom, every job opportunity, every adapted sports program, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to the promise that all people are created equal and deserve the opportunity to belong. Freedom is not only measured by the rights we have, but by the opportunities we create for others.
This Fourth of July, let us celebrate not only our nation’s independence, but also our commitment to building communities where every individual is seen, valued, respected, and included. Happy Independence Day from all of us at Down By The Border. Together, we continue making freedom and inclusion a reality for everyone. 🇺🇸❤️💛💙🧡🩵🤍💜💚♿️
