Congratulations to former student Ashly Goff on the purchase of her new car! She has been working hard this summer to save up money for a down payment and now she has something to call her own!!

She said taking JTG helped her with the process(I told her to be honest!) I’m super proud of her and can’t wait to see what else she accomplishes!

This morning was like any other morning. Until…I heard my name being called. I turned around and saw a student coming towards me with a big grin on his face. He said, “Mr. Leek, I got my first job because of you”. Talk about a day boost!

My man landed him a job!!! Congrats Jabori! Proud of you.

This is the second student I have learned about this happening to in a week. Another student had several applications in but never got past that…until…this class. He got a call AND got the first job he applied to after taking this class!

ALL students need JAG. ALL schools need JAG.

JTG goes to Orlando part 2!

Yesterday after competitions and workshops we went back out to city walk to grab some dinner and…play more putt putt. We ended playing two games because we received a BOGO after the first.

Today was JAG day out in Orlando so we went to Universal! We had fun, got wet, got to know other JTG students better from the other schools and are ready for a nap! Tonight is awards and the dance. Tomorrow we bring it on back. It’s been a fun trip with several memories and good times!

P.S. it was the guys idea to do matching shirts. How could I say no?

JTG. The one where we go to Orlando. Flew in to Orlando this evening for a National Career Development Conference. Took a stroll, played some putt putt, and eating at Bubba Gumps. Both of my students will be competing in different events beginning tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun filled 3 days.

Sometimes it’s good to take time and reflect on what you’re thankful for. On 11/8 students took the time to do just that. Students reflected on the things they were thankful for, wrote them on a pumpkin, and cut them out to be displayed on the bulletin board.

Today was a favorite. Today students in both blocks learned more hands on skills. Today students learned how to change a tire, check tire pressure, what the numbers on the tires mean, how to check oil levels, fluid levels, and we followed it up with a lesson on the important lights on your dash and what they mean.

Time for Mr. Leek’s students of the week! In first block we have Mr. Hunter Long! In second block we have Ms. Nakasia Henley. I hand picked my students this week. Mr. Long came in everyday last week prepared and ready to soak up all he could for the reverse career fair Friday.

Ms. Henley was handpicked because she did something big for her!! She stepped out of her comfort zone Friday to better herself. Ms. Henley would either be absent on presentation days or take a 0 to not do it. Last Friday she showed up and gave it her best! The photo accurately reflects Ms. Henley’s personality 😂(she’s smiling and laughing under the mask, I promise)

Congratulations again to Mr. Hunter Lomg and Ms. Nakasia Henley.

It was a good day for Haywood High JTG students. Today students participated in a reverse career fair. Students, with the help of several adults, got the opportunity to practice interviewing skills and getting that face to face interaction. For most of my students this was the first time they have had any kind of interview practice. Let me tell you, they did a really good job! Students are learning the skills needed outside of High School daily. These students, with the help of this class, will be better prepared for life outside of High School regardless of their career path.
