Dear Parents,

We had so much fun in Spanish class today! We continued practicing our greetings and added some new vocabulary that will help us have simple conversations with others in Spanish.

👋 What We Learned

Today we practiced how to:
• Ask someone’s name: ¿Cómo te llamas?
• Tell someone our name: Me llamo…
• Ask someone else’s name: ¿Cómo se llama?
• Tell someone someone else’s name: Se llama…
• Ask how someone is feeling: ¿Cómo estás?
• Respond with:
• Muy bien – very well
• Muy mal – very badly
• Así, así – so-so
• Gracias – thank you
• Inteligente – smart
• El muchacho – the boy
• La muchacha – the girl

🦙 Meet Mamá Llama!

The students had a special visit from Mamá Llama, who joined us for a silly and comical puppet skit along with a boy and girl puppet. The puppets helped us practice asking and answering questions in Spanish in a fun and memorable way.

The students then had the opportunity to use our new vocabulary in mini-conversations with their friends and with their very own puppets!

We also played Keepy uppy with balloons labeled with each of our new feeling words.

🎶 Songs & Crafts

We sang several fun Spanish greeting songs to reinforce our new words and phrases. Our song this week was “Cómo te llamas, muchacho?” By Patti Lozano. We also learned, “Más saludos” by Julia Burnier

We also made paper-plate emotion faces to help us practice expressing how we are feeling in Spanish.

🏠 Practice at Home

You can easily practice these words and phrases at home—even for just a few minutes!

Try a Spanish conversation:

Parent: ¡Hola! ¿Cómo te llamas?
Child: Me llamo _____.

Parent: ¿Cómo estás?
Child: Muy bien, gracias!

You can also take turns pretending to be the muchacho and muchacha and have your child ask, “¿Cómo te llamas?”

Another fun idea is to use stuffed animals, dolls, or puppets to create your own little Spanish conversation. Have one character introduce themselves and ask the other character’s name and how they are feeling.

Finally, ask your child to show you their emotion face from class and tell you how they are feeling in Spanish. 😊😢😡

Even a few minutes of playful practice at home will help these phrases become more familiar and comfortable!

We had so much fun in Spanish class today! We continued practicing our greetings and added some new vocabulary that will help us have simple conversations with others in Spanish.

¡Hola, familias! 👋🇪🇸
Thank you for joining us for Spanish class! This week, we learned how to greet people and introduce ourselves in Spanish. The children practiced through songs, games, a puppet skit, and a craft.

🌟 What We Learned

Our new vocabulary was:
¡Hola! — Hello!
Buenos días — Good morning!
Buenas tardes — Good afternoon!
Buenas noches — Good night!
Me llamo… — My name is…
Aquí estoy — Here I am!
Adiós — Goodbye!

We practiced using these words in simple conversations, such as:
“¡Hola! Me llamo ___.”
“Hello! My name is ___.”
“¡Hola! ¿Cómo te llamas?”
“Hello! What is your name?”
We also sang Spanish songs, watched a fun llama puppet skit, played a greeting game, and completed a craft to help reinforce our new vocabulary. 🎶🦙🎨

🏠 Practice at Home
You don’t need to set aside a lot of time to practice! Just a few minutes throughout the week can make a big difference.

Try these simple activities:
☀️ Morning:
When your child wakes up, say “¡Buenos días!” Encourage them to say it back to you.
👋 Saying Hello:
Pretend you are meeting for the first time. Take turns saying:
“¡Hola! Me llamo ___.”
🌙 Bedtime:
Before going to sleep, practice saying “Buenas noches.”
🚪 Leaving the House:
Use “¡Adiós!” whenever someone leaves.
🎭 Play Pretend:
Have stuffed animals, dolls, or family members “meet” each other. Encourage your child to greet each character in Spanish.

⭐ Remember!
At this age, hearing and using Spanish regularly is more important than getting every word perfect. Encourage your child to have fun, repeat the words often, and celebrate their efforts!

🍂 Fall Spanish Classes for Kids! 🍂

Looking for a fun way for your child to learn Spanish this fall? Let’s Learn Spanish with Allison is back with a new session of Spanish classes for kids!

🎶 Stories • Games • Songs 🎶

These fun, interactive classes are designed to introduce children to Spanish in a way that feels more like play than school. Each class will include engaging activities, songs, stories, games, and plenty of opportunities to hear and use Spanish.

📚 Fall Session
📅 Mondays & Thursdays
⏰ 4:00–5:00 PM
📍 Brownsburg, IN — classes held in my home
👧🧒 ages 4 through 5th grade
👥 Small class sizes

Your child does not need to have any previous Spanish experience! Classes are welcoming to both beginners and children who have already started learning Spanish.

Dear Families,
This week we had a wonderful time exploring The Very Hungry Caterpillar (La Oruga Muy Hambrienta) while learning Spanish!
This Week’s Theme
🐛 La Oruga Muy Hambrienta (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)

We practiced asking and answering the question:
¿Qué come? (What does it eat?)

We learned these food words and counted in Spanish:
🍎 una manzana – one apple

🍐 dos peras – two pears

🟣 tres ciruelas – three plums

🍓 cuatro fresas – four strawberries

🍊 cinco naranjas – five oranges

What We Did in Class
Sang Spanish songs and greeted our friends.

Read La Oruga Muy Hambrienta together.

Counted fruits in Spanish during the story.

Played a movement game by crawling like hungry caterpillars to find different fruits.

Fed our hungry caterpillar while answering the question ¿Qué come?

Made our own Hungry Caterpillar craft.

The children did a fantastic job repeating the Spanish words and using their counting skills!
Practice at Home
Here are a few simple ways to reinforce this week’s vocabulary:

🍎 Fruit Hunt
Gather apples, pears, oranges, strawberries, or other fruits around your kitchen.
Ask:

¿Qué come?

Have your child answer:

Una manzana.

Dos peras.

Tres ciruelas.

Cuatro fresas.

Cinco naranjas.

📖 Read Together
If you have a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, read it together. Pause on each fruit page and encourage your child to name the fruit and count it in Spanish.
🎶 Sing Together
Practice counting while pointing to fruit:
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco!
Then say the vocabulary together:

una manzana

dos peras

tres ciruelas

cuatro fresas

cinco naranjas

🛒 Grocery Store Game
While shopping, invite your child to help find fruits and say their Spanish names. Even if you don’t find every fruit from our lesson, practicing the numbers and asking ¿Qué come? is great review.
🎨 Draw and Count
Have your child draw:
1 apple
2 pears
3 plums
4 strawberries
5 oranges
Then ask them to tell you what they drew in Spanish.

Dear Families,

This past Friday in Spanish class, we learned vocabulary for summer clothing and practiced asking and answering the question:

¿Qué llevas? (What are you wearing?)

Vocabulary We Learned
• las gafas de sol = sunglasses
• los shorts = shorts
• la playera = t-shirt
• las sandalias = sandals
• el gorro = hat
• el traje de baño = swimsuit

What We Did in Class
• Sang songs in Spanish
• Learned new summer clothing words
• Read a story about Ana getting ready for a day at the beach
• Played a movement game by matching clothing phrases to posters around the room
• Created a paper doll dressed in summer clothing
• Practiced answering the question ¿Qué llevas?

Practice at Home

Learning a language is most effective when children hear and use it regularly. Here are some simple ways to practice at home:

Clothing Hunt
Ask your child to find clothing items around the house.

You can ask:
¿Dónde están las sandalias?
(Where are the sandals?)

¿Dónde está el gorro?
(Where is the hat?)

Dress-Up Game
As your child gets dressed, ask:

¿Qué llevas?
(What are you wearing?)

Help them answer:
Llevo los shorts.
(I am wearing shorts.)

Llevo la playera.
(I am wearing a t-shirt.)

Beach Bag Challenge
Pretend you are packing for the beach.

Ask your child:
¿Qué necesitamos?
(What do we need?)

Encourage them to name the vocabulary words from class.

Flashcard Review
Use the paper doll craft from class to review the vocabulary.

Point to an item and ask:
¿Qué es?

Or ask:
¿Qué lleva?
(What is he/she wearing?)

Dear Families,

I hope you are doing well. Unfortunately, I have developed laryngitis and currently have no voice, so I will need to cancel all Spanish classes on Friday, June 12.

I am disappointed to miss class, but I want to make sure I am able to provide the engaging and interactive instruction that our students deserve. I expect to recover soon, and classes will resume as scheduled next week.

Families who have already paid for this class may choose one of the following options:
• Apply the payment toward a makeup class at the end of our summer session, or
• Receive a full refund for the canceled class.

Please let me know which option you prefer.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing everyone back in class next week!

Dear Families,
Today in Spanish class we learned about summer weather and practiced several new Spanish vocabulary words. We talked about the season of summer (el verano) and different kinds of weather we might experience during the summer months.

Spanish Weather Words We Learned
☀️ Hace sol – It’s sunny
🥵 Hace calor – It’s hot
🌧️ Está lloviendo – It’s raining
⛈️ Hay tormenta – There’s a storm
☁️ Está nublado – It’s cloudy
🏖️ El verano – Summer

We practiced these words through songs, movement activities, picture sorting games, stories, and crafts. Students made a sunshine craft to represent hace sol.

Ask Your Child

What does hace sol mean?

What does hace calor mean?

What weather word means “it’s raining”?

What season is el verano?

Practice at Home:
Here are a few easy ways to reinforce today’s learning:

Weather Reporter:

Each day, look outside together and ask:
“¿Qué tiempo hace?” (What’s the weather?)
Help your child answer:

Hace sol

Hace calor

Está lloviendo

Hay tormenta

Está nublado

Weather Hunt:
While driving or playing outside, look for examples of different weather conditions and name them in Spanish.

Use the Crafts:

Wave the sunshine craft and say, “¡Hace sol!”

Make a craft:

Make a rainstick to represent está lloviendo.
Have child color or paint a paper tube.
Tape one end shut.
Fill with 1/4 cup dry beans.
Tape the other side shut.
Practice the phrase esta lloviendo while turning the rain stick.

Turn the rainstick slowly and say, “¡Está lloviendo!”

Shake the rainstick faster and say, “¡Hay tormenta!”

Family Challenge
Can your family use at least one Spanish weather phrase every day this week?

Preschool Spanish Class was so much fun last
Week! We started our unit on apples for fall. We practiced counting 1-10 and colors as well as the word for apple in Spanish. We read “Ten Apples Up on Top” by Dr. Seuss, sang songs, sorted apples by color and used apples to paint.
