The field of Human Services is rapidly growing and constantly in need of skilled professionals. Blackfeet Community College’s Associate of Arts in Human Services Program prepares students to pursue a career in a variety of helping fields, such as alcohol and drug rehabilitation, behavioral health centers, social service agencies, youth centers, criminal justice facilities, schools, and community o

utreach programs. The curriculum is composed of courses in Human Services, Psychology, Chemical Dependency and Criminal Justice. In addition to classroom coursework, the program offers hands-on field experience. It is the student’s responsibility to check with their transferring institution to see that, as much as possible, their course work meets their transfer institution’s degree requirements.

General Statement of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Human Services Division Chair, the Human Services Instructor is responsible for teaching courses within the Human Services program, supporting curriculum development through research and instructional material preparation, advising students on academic progress and career pathways, and actively participating in college committees and service activities. All responsibilities are to be carried out while being committed to the mission, vision, and core themes of Blackfeet Community College.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field required;
-Master’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
-Relevant teaching experience required, teaching experience at an adult and higher education institution preferred.

Requirements:
-Instruct up to 15 credits per semester to assure adequate scheduling for students who wish to work toward a certificate or two-year degree in accordance with published BCC Catalogs.
-Identify current information to use as library resource materials.
-Research material/instructional documents to use in instruction, research, readings, or supportive materials for the division.
-Participate in the advising process for 1- Year Certificates and Associate degrees in Human Services. This includes but is not limited to being available during pre-registration and regular registration, maintaining consistent office hours, maintaining contact with students throughout the semester, and maintaining advising records and two-year education plans. If a student identifies any special needs, this must be communicated to the counselors for proper follow up.
-Assist the Division Chair on articulation of courses relevant to the transfer of these specific courses to other TCCCs and to four-year degree granting institutions.
-Serve as an active member on the Curriculum Committee to coordinate the total instructional program at BCC to provide and maintain the highest quality educational services that includes up to date educational information.
-Assist the Division Chair in maintaining records, curriculum information, student records, course syllabi and outlines, activities held, book orders, attendance records, grade records, advising files, education plans, referrals, instructor withdrawals, as well as any other faculty requirements, and have available upon request.
-Provide required assistance and documentation in working with Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
-Complete student course evaluations on a semester basis.
-Assist on special projects, ad-hoc committees, as directed or required by the Division Chair or Vice-President for Academic Affairs.
-Prepare reports as required.
Work with College Readiness instructors for seamless transition into regular courses.

Summary:
-This person is required to have an extensive knowledge of the principles, techniques and ethics of instruction, particularly with Native Americans and Adult and Higher Education. The person needs to have working knowledge of advising, research techniques and how to develop curriculum.
-Has contact with personnel in all departments, students, Board of Trustees, Blackfeet Tribal departments and programs staff, and other related entities and persons that are necessary to contact in order to conduct the day-to-day business operations of the Human Services Division.
-Work is performed in a normal office/classroom environment. Normal demands of office/classroom work are applicable. Walking, standing, and sitting at a desk is required. Some lifting will be required, i.e., books, equipment and other miscellaneous materials. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
