Robert Sakata is the Ag Water Policy Advisor at CDA who has dedicated his life to agriculture, water stewardship, and public service in Colorado. Listen to this interview to hear from a lifelong farmer and respected leader in the state’s agricultural and water policy arenas, below.

Robert Sakata, Senior Advisor to the Commissioner at the Colorado Department of Agriculture, discussed the severe drought impacting the state, particularly the Colorado River and South Platte River.. Sakata also addressed the challenges faced by the cattle industry, including reduced herd sizes due to drought and the impact of wolves on ranchers. He emphasized the importance of succession planning and the expansion of the ag loan program to support beginning farmers. The conversation also touched on the Severance Tax Task Force's report and the need for better documentation of drought responses. Colorado Department of Agriculture
