CDA is actively monitoring this evolving situation and we are working with Colorado’s livestock partners to minimize impacts on the industry. Colorado has adopted an emergency rule to control the spread of New World Screwworm (NWS) after a positive detection in Texas and New Mexico.

The rule stipulates that no animal with NWS myiasis may enter Colorado. It also follows USDA's NWS Continuity of Business guidance which requires specific movement protocols for livestock originating from an NWS Infested Zone. Specifically, the rule requires that:

1. Animals from a NWS Infested Zone must follow all import requirements, as outlined in the Emergency Rule.
2. All dogs and cats entering from states with Infested Zones must follow additional inspection protocols within 5 days prior to entry into Colorado.

Seeding Circles invites you to the Research Field Conference 2026 with Pfz Farms on June 16-17 in Northeast Colorado—focused on helping producers stay viable in increasingly dry conditions.
If producers in the West can’t adapt to water limitations, we don’t just lose farms—we lose regional food security.
This event brings together farmers and researchers working on practical solutions like soil health, water efficiency, crop diversity, and resilient production systems—all foundational to keeping food local and supply chains strong.
If you are a producer and decision-maker actively shaping how food is grown, sourced, and sustained in your community, you won't want to miss it. Learn more and register at https://www.pfzfarms.com/field-conference-2026
