This yearโ€™s festival celebrates the music of acclaimed composer Brian Balmages, our guest conductor and composer-in-residence.

๐ŸŽถ LIU Department of Music Convocation 2025 ๐ŸŽถ

Join us today at 12:30 PM in Krasnoff Theater for this weekโ€™s Convocation:
โœจ The Practice Room in 2025 โœจ presented by Dr. Stephen Whimple.

Dr. Whimple is a trombonist and educator based in New Yorkโ€™s Hudson Valley. He holds degrees from The Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam) and The Juilliard School, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance & Pedagogy from The University of Alabama โ€” Roll Tide. His teachers include some of the worldโ€™s leading trombonists: Colin Williams, Dr. Jonathan Whitaker, Dr. Jeremy Crawford, Joseph Alessi, and Dr. Mark Hartman.

He has taught and performed extensively, serving as Instructor of Music and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Alabama, and performing with Bard Collegeโ€™s The Orchestra Now for two and a half years.
