Reminder if you have experienced agricultural-related damage due to recent wind or flooding, please contact the Franklin County Farm Service Agency Office to report the damage and provide any available information.

From Lisa Hollars, “We are currently in Step 1 of the process, which involves surveying the damage and collecting information to help determine the extent of impact. The County Committee (COC) has requested we move forward to implement the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP), but first we need to document the damage and gather necessary information. Please reach out to the FSA as soon as possible if you have experienced qualifying agriculture damage.”

🚨 Avoid Scams After a Disaster 🚨

Following a storm, flood, or other disaster, scammers often move in quickly—posing as contractors, charities, government workers, insurance adjusters, or lenders.

As our communities work through cleanup and recovery, take a few extra minutes to protect yourself:

🔎 Verify before you hire or pay. Get contracts in writing, check that businesses are registered, ask for proof of insurance and references, and never feel pressured to make an immediate payment.

💰 Watch for red flags. Be cautious of unsolicited contractors, requests for cash or full payment up front, “discounts today only,” fake government representatives, questionable charities, and anyone promising to speed up an insurance claim.

📄 Know your rights. Indiana law requires home improvement contracts over $150 to be in writing, and consumers may have a right to cancel certain contracts.

📸 Keep your records. Save contracts, estimates, receipts, texts, photos, business cards, license plates, and other information if something doesn’t seem right.

⚠️ Already paid someone you suspect is a scammer? Act quickly. Stop further payments, contact your bank or card issuer, gather your documentation, and report the situation.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT — PLEASE SHARE

We have received reports of individuals in flood-affected areas claiming FEMA is on the way, collecting personal information, and telling residents not to begin cleanup.

Please be cautious.

Do not delay cleanup simply because someone tells you FEMA is coming. Take plenty of photos and video and document your damage before cleanup whenever possible.

If someone claims to represent FEMA or another agency:

• Ask to see official credentials.
• Do not provide sensitive personal information unless you have verified who they are.
• If they cannot provide credentials, do not allow them onto your property.
• Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

Please share and help protect your neighbors.
