The Laurel Elementary cheer team spent Saturday hosting a car wash for a good cause!

They raised $1,606 which will be donated to local residents who were affected by the recent flooding.

It was held at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home and the team thanked Devin Shoemaker and his wife for hosting the 4-hour car wash.

We are so thankful for the partnership.

The goal is to reduce recidivism by partnering with community agencies and families to help students understand both that choices have consequences but also that they can learn to make different ones, even when it is hard.

Last year we saw great success with the OSS Program and I know with this new model it will be even better.

Thankful for all of the support to help our students achieve the Portrait of a Graduate that we are striving towards.

☕️💚 A Little Hounds Pack Love for Laurel Elementary 💚☕️

The HoundsPack took our coffee cart over to Laurel Elementary to brighten their day and remind them that their community is behind them!

As they work to recover from the devastating flood, we know there are a lot of challenges ahead. We wanted to bring a little coffee, a few smiles, and some encouragement to the amazing staff who continue to show up for their students and their community ♥️

A rough start doesn't mean a rough year. One day, one lesson, one step at a time. Better days are ahead ☀️

Tonight was a special night for Franklin County soccer.

Franklin County High School and Franklin County Youth Soccer officially named our soccer field the O’Bryan Soccer Pitch in honor of Coach Bob O’Bryan and his more than 50 years of dedication to teaching, coaching, and sharing his love for the game of soccer with the young people of Franklin County.

From this point forward, generations of Wildcats will take the field at the O’Bryan Soccer Pitch—a fitting tribute to someone who has given so much to soccer and to the young people of Franklin County.

Here is the updated menu information for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Breakfast for All Schools: All schools will offer muffins, cereal bars, or yogurt.

Brookville Elementary:
Tuesday: Buttermilk pancakes, sausage, tator tots; Salad or square pizza
Wednesday: Calzones; Warm veggies and fruit; Ham and cheese wrap

Laurel Elementary:
Tuesday: Buttermilk pancakes, sausage, tator tots
Wednesday: Toasted triple cheese with tomato soup; Fresh fruit and veggies; Choice of milk

Mt. Carmel:
Tuesday: Buttermilk pancakes, sausage, tator tots
Wednesday: Chicken tenders and fries

Middle School:
Following the standard menu for the 18th–20th.

High School:
Tuesday: General Tso
Wednesday: French toast, hash brown, and sausage
*We will update you with Thursday and Friday once those changes are finalized. We will return to the correct menu on Monday the 24th.

Vegetables & Cold Bar: All schools will have a warm vegetable option and access to the cold bar with fruit and veggie choices.

Today, Mrs. New, Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. McCoy, our Director of Transportation, and I spent some time in Laurel getting some extra eyes on the roads as we prepare for school tomorrow.

While we were there, we had the opportunity to visit with several impacted families and business owners, as well as some of the incredible people working at the Laurel Community Center.

The devastation is real. There is no other way to describe it. Seeing it firsthand gives you an entirely different perspective on what so many of our families and neighbors have experienced over the past several days.

But amongst the devastation, I saw something else today…

COMMUNITY.

I saw people helping people.

I saw neighbors getting their hands dirty helping neighbors clean up.

I saw people jumping in wherever they were needed, using their skills and talents to help their neighbors.

And then I walked into the gym at the Community Center and saw this.

Tables and shelves filled with an INCREDIBLE amount of donated cleaning supplies and recovery supplies. Volunteers sorting, organizing, and preparing everything so that when a neighbor needs something, it is ready.

This picture may look like a gym full of supplies.

What I saw was a community taking care of its own.

I cannot imagine what the past several days have been like for the people of Laurel. The loss and disruption are very real, and there is still a long road ahead.

But I can tell you what I saw there today.

I saw strength.

I saw generosity.

I saw resilience.

I saw COMMUNITY.

Laurel, you have been through a lot. But what I witnessed today reminded me that a community isn’t defined only by what happens to it.

It’s defined by how its people respond.

And today, I was incredibly proud of what I saw.

For those asking how they can help, here is the current process:

If you are bringing tools: Please take them to the Laurel Fire House.

If you are bringing supplies: Please take them to the Laurel Community Center.

If you want to volunteer: Please report to the Laurel Fire House FIRST. Volunteers will be coordinated from there and sent to the locations where help is needed most, including the Community Center.

Volunteer efforts begin each day between 8:00–9:00 a.m. and generally wrap up between 4:00–5:00 p.m., although some volunteers choose to stay later.

If you have time, tools, supplies, or simply a willingness to work, there is a place for you.

People helping people. That is what I saw in Laurel today.
