Amazing collaboration from young minds interested in careers in public service as part of our 911 operators CTE program! Students were asked to brainstorm the impacts of absenteeism and lack of punctuality in the workplace and complete a sticky note analysis AVID activity. These bright students came up with amazing responses and then shared the ideas that also apply to the high school experience with the rest of the school by displaying their hard work for all students to see as their WICOR spotlight strategy! Bravo to our staff member of the week Dr. Elders for such a dynamic lesson and to his dedicated students for demonstrating academic excellence! Proud to be a bear! 🐻

🔎🧬 THE CASE OF LOIS McARTHUR HAS COMMENCED! 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

The detectives are hard at work in Mrs. Kingdom’s Forensic Science class! 🧪🔬

Students have been assigned case files and are collaborating in small investigative teams to analyze evidence and solve The Case of Lois McArthur. From blood type comparison to hair and fiber analysis, students are putting real forensic science techniques into action!

📝 Next up: handwriting analysis and fingerprint identification. Students will then compare their findings and complete a final case report detailing their conclusions.

And this is just the beginning! Throughout the year, students will investigate a classroom crime scene, a theater crime scene, and several additional cases while developing critical-thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

🌟 Students will also have the incredible opportunity to participate in a video call with Dr. Daniel Krane, a Bioinformatics Professor and expert witness in high-profile cases, bringing another layer of authentic, real-world learning into the classroom.

It’s going to be a year filled with investigation, collaboration, real-world experiences, and SCIENCE IN ACTION! 🧬🔎🐻

🔎📝 Thinking Like an Examiner in AICE English Language!

Students in Mrs. Torrentes’ AICE English Language class stepped into the role of Cambridge examiners during an engaging Examiner Workshop designed to uncover what separates a high-scoring response from the rest! 🎯

Students analyzed authentic responses from previous Central High School AICE examinations representing high, middle, and lower performance bands—without knowing the actual scores. Working collaboratively, they used “Detective Questions” to examine evidence, organization, analysis, language choices, strengths, and areas for improvement.

Next, students participated in a gallery walk, reviewing their classmates’ observations and using specific evidence to determine which responses were strongest and weakest. 🕵️‍♀️📚

Then came the challenge: Build the Examiner’s Checklist! ✅ Students transformed their discoveries into success criteria for an effective AICE English Language response—creating practical strategies they can apply directly to their own writing.

The big reveal came at the end when Mrs. Torrente shared the actual scores and performance bands. Students compared the official results to their predictions, leading to some surprises and powerful conversations about what examiners truly value.

👏 This is what meaningful learning looks like: analyzing, collaborating, evaluating, justifying, reflecting, and then applying the learning to future work.

Our Bears aren’t just preparing for the exam—they’re learning to think like the examiner! 🐻💙📝

🎶 We planned to “Walk Like an Egyptian,” but these Bears ended up flying like eagles! 🦅

Students put Ancient Egypt under the microscope through a station activity that had them learning, discussing, problem-solving, and supporting one another along the way.

We’re proud of their willingness to try something new and even more proud to see them working together to help each other succeed.
