A Wild Home

A Wild Home Home of the Florida Wild School 📍 Downtown Brooksville, FL We raised our children on our 4-acre historic, permaculture farm(Luna Hill Farm) for 10 years.

A Wild Home is a nature-connected, permaculture-designed learning space for children, families, & community 🌿

Cultivating Community, Celebrating Curiosity, & Nurturing Wonder, with Nature. While we lived there, we ran various community building events, ranging from Yoga on the lawn, a monthly Women's Listening Circle for 7 years, foraging classes in our 2 acre Forest Garden, Medicinal Plant class

es from our herb spiral, community gatherings of all sorts, & farm tours. We also ran the Luna Hill Wild School, where children from ages 4-13 came to learn about mindfulness, permaculture & organic gardening, carpentry, animal husbandry, foraging, connecting with the moons cycles, healthy communication, & more! In 2019 we decided to do something we'd been contemplating for a while-convert a bus and travel with our kids as a natural evolution to their(and our!)education. AJ design the bus & John built the conversion all by hand in 3 1/2 months & we left our hometown on December 1st, starting our (at least)year-long adventure exploring the U.S.! After traveling for 2 years, visiting 19 National Parks & 21 States, we moved out of our skoolie & into a home on a quiet brick street, in beautiful downtown Brooksville, FL! AJ & John now run another Wild School here, while converting the land to a rich learning environment from AJ's design plan.

Catching up on some weeding and…preparing this space for something pretty special we’re adding 😍 Can’t wait!

📸 The picture perfect gardens always get the spotlight online, but gardening is an act of love for me…a process that I enjoy through all the different seasons and stages. A part of life, not a ‘done’ end goal. 8am->12pm 🌿AJ

My usual overalls and Johns carpenters’ pencil behind the ear didn’t make the description🤣
I think we pulled it off!

We’ve been kinda quiet online lately because things are a movin’ and a shaking in real life!

We’re on break from programming, but while we are, we’re also:

🧒 Meeting with the 70+ applicants we’ve had for Florida Wild School

🔨 Building fences on our new land expansion

🐟 Preparing the new land for our Wildlife Pond + Stream project we’ll begin with students this autumn

🎨 Getting the mural started for the front, which our kids will design & paint themselves

🤝 Meeting with conservation groups we might like to partner with as we continue to grow

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Homeschooling & adventuring with our own kids

🌿 Keeping up with the summer gardens

🏡 AND John’s remodeling a house down the block for someone else

A busy “break.” 😁

There’s a lot happening around here, but we’re continuing to enjoy the process of building it all. Watching the new spaces take shape, meeting the new families who will join our community, preparing for the projects we’ll take on together, and checking off all those daily goals along the way.

There’s a whole lot of work in creating the kind of learning and community we believe in. And we really do love the work. 💚AJ +John

😍Check out these marble mazes some of the kids at our last Woodshop Summer Camp made!

Each handmade- learning tool skills in the process, using their creativity to make their own maze, and having so much FUN in the process! Proud of their work! 💚

📣New project announcement!

We took down the old fence & are starting work on the new land we acquired, where we will be starting the next phase of our design plans with the students at Florida Wild School: our WILDLIFE STREAM project!

We’ve received over 60 applications for our school year program and are still meeting with new families. Classes begin in September after Labor Day weekend.

If you’d like to be a part of a thriving community, where real life skills are gained and real tools are used, come meet us and our unique space!

🐝 Beekeeping is for kids, too!

At Florida Wild School, we help children see themselves as part of nature, not separate from it. We nurture a sense of wonder, stewardship, and belonging by asking an important question:

What role do we play in caring for the world around us?

Sometimes, the answer begins with something as small, and as important, as a honeybee.

Want to grow with us?
2026-27 Applications are open for ages 5-17, now with limited spots available.
