🚨 ATTENTION HERNANDO COUNTY RESIDENTS🚨
At last night’s meeting, we heard about a proposed 23% increase in health insurance costs for our school district. Of course, the final cost still needs to be negotiated, but I believe we need to do more than simply talk about the problem—we need to find a real solution.
Hernando County Commission already has a model worth looking at. Their healthcare program is self-insured and provides a wellness center that utilizes CARE ATC for routine checkups, preventative care, and other services. This model is designed to reduce healthcare costs and has the potential to provide substantial savings. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office also has a similar program.
When elected, I want to work toward creating a similar model for our school district. Our educators and school employees deserve quality, accessible healthcare, while taxpayers deserve a system that is financially responsible and focused on controlling costs.
And I want to be clear: I will shop around. I will look at different healthcare entities, compare costs and benefits, negotiate, and find opportunities to save the district millions of dollars in healthcare costs.
That's what I do as a businessperson. I look at the numbers, find efficiencies, negotiate, and make fiscally responsible decisions.
Our teachers and school employees are a critical part of Hernando County’s workforce. We need to take care of the people who take care of our children—while also being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.
I don't believe in simply pointing out a problem. I believe in bringing solutions to the table.
Fiscal responsibility will be at the top of my agenda.
Kara Champion for Hernando County School Board District 5.
