Miss STEM Bring STEM into any occasion! For the past 15 years I have been working in education.

Birthday Parties, Home School Groups,
Day Camps, Extra-Help, Science and Engineering for Parents, Scout Badge, Special Events, Fun for ALL with STEM Educational Experiences. STEM has become one of my greatest passions- and I love facilitating a learning experience. I have written and run an engineering curriculum, as well as running a computer science program. My first love was science and there i

s a GREAT need in the world for our younger generation to find the same love. If there is an experience that you are interested in- you can trust in me to make it happen!

Let learning lead the future!!

Learning that begins and ends during the school day, doesn’t last a lifetime. As an educator, my goal is to create lifelong learners. By creating learning experiences outside of the “classroom” (however that looks like), allows students to grasp the concept in a real-world setting.

One activity that you can do with your child is for them to plan a meal or snacks for a gathering. For example- you may ask your 4th grader to plan a movie night. They are to create a list of items you will need from the grocery store (or the dollar store) for a certain amount of guests. Give them a budget… and they MUST stick to the budget.

This is a wonderful way of introducing estimation. Have them estimate the cost of each item. Then go to the store and get that list! I would have the child do scratch math on the back of the shopping list or do mental math. Since this is a fun setting- a calculator can be used.

Watch how rewarding it feels to figure out a shopping list on a budget. This is a real-world application that provides your kiddo purpose.

Good Morning my Learning Community!!

Goal setting is an enormous skill to have in life. Goal setting can happen at any age. If a child can wake up and set a goal, then they will have purpose and direction for that day. The goals will vary according to age. When a goal is made- we can call this making a commitment. We are committing to keeping our goal.

If you have a three year old, you want to choose 3-4 goals and have them printed out in the form of pictures and text. You will guide your little to place their picture next to the goal they want to accomplish for the day- making this part of their daily routine. Examples of goals:

- Show kindness
- Sit in my area
- Share with someone else

If you have kindergarten-second graders (primary grades), goal setting is extremely important to help them get through the day. When this age group sets a goal they are able to experience accomplishments. You can set goals daily or weekly, but sometimes it works better for them to have a switch up daily. For primary, it is important to use pictures as well. You can use photos from a source, or you can take pictures of your little modeling the behavior. Some goals for primary could be:

- I commit to staying in my work space
- I commit to listening carefully
- I commit to keeping a safe body
- I commit to being kind

Intermediate students NEED goals in their life. When we come across an adult who has commitment issues or are unable to stick with or make a goal- they suffer slightly in society. You can look up goals and list them for kids to choose, then later on in the intermediate grades- students can create their own. I recommend providing goals for the first few months because they will learn what goals are through you. Here are some goals:

- I commit to staying on track
- I commit to keeping my workspace neat
- I commit to keeping a kind voice
- I commit to asking for help when I feel lost

Goals help create success. The younger we can begin our youth with setting goals- the better. It is SUPER important that at the end of each day you reflect on the goal. If the goal was met- notice their achievement! If the goal was not met- discuss how they almost met the goal and what could be done to achieve that goal next time.

There is an abundance of goal setting downloads out there. Find one you love and give it a try. ❤️

Hi All!

Being a teacher for over 16 years- one trick that truly makes a difference during transition times are providing brain breaks. This can be a quick game, dance, exercise, or my favorite- cardio drumming!

Good morning, homeschooling families!

Have you ever given a child a sticker or prize for doing something they should? Today, try practicing noticing.

When a child or adult, for that manner, feels noticed, they have a sense of accomplishment. Instead of giving a child a prize for doing some thing they should, reward them with noticing.

An example of noticing would be.:

Annie, you did it. You picked up the toys off of your floor so that it’s safe to walk around. That is really helpful.

By doing this, you’re developing their inside voice. It will translate to- “ I did it, I picked up the toys off of the floor, and I am being safe!”

Another example of positive noticing would be-

“ wow Annie, you asked for help when you didn’t understand the question. This helps me understand what you need. You did it, that’s really helpful for me to know how to help you.”

It’s a hard concept to get used to, especially when the child is accustomed to receiving a prize. However, the brain is completely retrainable!!

Good morning, homeschooling families!

Here is a teaching tip of the day. Have you ever had a child or a student show their frustration by acting out? Did you know it’s because they’re not feeling seen or heard?

Today I wanna introduce the skill of noticing. It has been researched and proven that a child succeeds more when they are noticed. Often times when they are feeling unnoticed, the child will behave in a negative way. Resulting with a meltdown or a tantrum.

When we apply the skill of noticing, a child will feel understood. Here’s an example of noticing:

Tony, you seem frustrated. This math problem is hard. Why don’t we take a break from this problem for a few minutes and get back to it in a little while.

By doing this, our frustration level as a teacher will remain low. The worst thing to do os battle a child, who either doesn’t understand the content or doesn’t have the head space to concentrate.
