The Spanish Ministry of Education held their second annual ISA Theater Festival, and ISB had to join the fun and add our creativity and acting chops to the mix 🎭🇪🇸 Our 5th Graders led a trio of performances with “La batalla de las palabras,” a rap battle that doubled as a lesson in phonetics! Then our 4th and 5th Graders sang a beautiful rendition of “Luna de candela,” accompanied by a charming recording made by Spanish Pre-K 4. Finally, the 4th Grade put on a stunning puppet show that told the legend of “Las manchas del sapo,” a fun and very funny origin story of sorts!

There are many tasty opportunities to put French into practice right here in the neighborhood. Our 6th Grade French Acquisition students recently visited La Bicyclette Bakery to practice important real world language skills: ordering some delicious baguettes and croissants! 🥐🥖

Our 1st Graders launched their final unit of the school year, “Where We Are in Place and Time” with a field trip to the Old Stone House. At the Brooklyn landmark, students took part in workshops focused on toys from the past, which served as a hands-on and engaging way to knock on the door of history and make connections to their current place and time!

We were thrilled to host Grandparents and Special Friends Day, a morning in ISB’s Preschool and 1st and 2nd Grades with grandparents, family members, friends, and caregivers who help our students feel supported and loved. This very special tradition is a heartwarming celebration of the moments and connections our students will carry with them throughout their lives. Thank you to all our grandparents and special friends for attending this lovely event, and for joining in on the learning and play!

This year’s Middle School Musical Theater group presented an epic production of “Pippin”, full of inspiring songs and dynamic dance numbers, and themes as diverse as politics, coming-of-age, revolution, and love. As the character Pippin continues on a quest for purpose in a chaotic world, our audiences, for two nights of shows, were dazzled by our student actors’ performances and their palpable connection to the story they set out to tell.

Earth Day, the ISB way! 🌎 Our first-ever “Earth Day Adventurers” Field Day brought students to Prospect Park for a day of exploration and play in nature. From botanical drawing to leaf jewelry making to scavenger hunts and nature walks — and even boat building (with a subsequent float test!), each workshop led by our parent volunteers invited students to think about their connection to the natural world.
And of course, no field day is complete without a little friendly competition…tug-of-war, potato sack races, archery, and more!

Lights, voice, imaginación🎙️✨ Our Spanish 1st and 3rd Graders explored the art of expression with a visit from bilingual voice actor Adriana Colón! She talked to our students about how she creates voices for different characters, and why using your imagination is essential to the craft — especially when voicing characters that don’t exist in the real world.
