🎭 BAL Vocabulary: “Ensemble”
Not just a cast.
An ensemble is a group of performers who work together to build a story together—supporting, reacting, and creating something bigger than any one role.
At BAL, we don’t just teach kids to perform.
We teach them to work together.

Calling all rising 4th - 8th graders to join us this summer from June 29th–July 3rd to step into the world of improv games, ensemble storytelling, and spontaneous creativity—where every moment is an invitation to play.
At Brooklyn Acting Lab, improv isn’t just about being funny onstage — it’s about building confidence, communication, problem solving skills, creativity, and resilience in everyday life.
When young actors practice saying “yes, and,” they learn how to support each other’s ideas, think on their feet, and embrace the unexpected with curiosity instead of fear.
As George Gershwin once said:
“Life is a lot like jazz… it’s best when you improvise.” 🎭✨”

For 12 years, Brooklyn Acting Lab has been proud to help bring the PS 107 5th Grade Talent Show to life!
What began as a school tradition has grown into a celebration of creativity, courage, collaboration, and fearless self-expression — a space where young people can share the things that make them them.
Because the truth is: our uniqueness is our talent. A magic trick. A dance. A joke. A song. A cartwheel. A story. The Talent Show reminds us every year that there’s joy in being seen for exactly who you are.
From first rehearsals to final bows, this community continues to show up for one another with so much heart, humor, and enthusiasm.
The Talent Show is one of the many in-school residencies BAL is proud to offer — bringing theater, creativity, and collaborative storytelling directly into school communities across Brooklyn and beyond. 💫

18 years of BAL Summer. ☀️
For nearly two decades, Brooklyn Acting Lab has been a space where young people can create boldly, collaborate freely, and let their imaginations run wild through theatrical immersive play.
From classrooms to rehearsal rooms to full productions, we’ve grown alongside generations of artists, storytellers, and creative thinkers — all guided by the belief that young people thrive when they feel connected, supported, and free to play.
At BAL, children and professional teaching artists create side by side: building worlds, taking risks, making discoveries, and finding joy in the process together.
Here’s to 18 summers of imagination, collaboration, and making magic together. 🎭

Our hearts are with two members of our BAL creative community, Izzy Kitch and Evan Frank, who experienced a devastating apartment fire early Monday morning in Inwood.
Thankfully, they are safe—but they lost their home and all of their belongings.
Many of you know Izzy and Evan through their beautiful work on BAL productions, and through the kindness, creativity, and generosity they bring into every space they enter.
If you’re able to, please donate or share the GoFundMe we’ve created to support them as they begin the overwhelming process of rebuilding. We love you both 💕
