At SFDS, we believe every child deserves access to the specialized services, qualified professionals, and educational environments they need to thrive.

That is why we are proud to support the bipartisan reintroduction of the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act, legislation designed to strengthen educational opportunities for children and youth who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, Blind and Deaf Disabled.

This legislation supports:
Qualified Educators
Family Resources
Communication Access
Language Development
Trained Interveners
Specialized Support

Regardless of political affiliation, this is an issue that affects children, families, educators, and communities across our nation. Ensuring that students with sensory disabilities receive equitable access to education is not a partisan issue, it is a commitment to opportunity, inclusion, communication, and belonging.

Our annual PBIS Olympics brought smiles, teamwork, kindness, and plenty of memorable moments to SFDS. From mural-making and positive affirmations to wellness activities, prizes, and even our much anticipated slime challenge, students and staff embraced school pride every step of the way!

The day culminated with our annual Field Day. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's PBIS Olympics a joyful celebration.

June is DeafBlind Awareness Month.

This month, we celebrate the strength, independence, and unique experiences of the DeafBlind community. We honor their achievements, amplify their voices, and reaffirm our commitment to fostering accessibility, inclusion, and belonging for all.

We would like to take a moment to recognize Bryan Ward, Board President DBDDCT & Coordinator, Helen Keller National Center and Christopher Woodfill, Executive Director, New York State Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Governor's Office

Salaries for our specialized staff consistently lag behind, making workforce retention a challenge. The 4201 Schools Association are asking for a new $10M initiative to help us better align salaries with those offered by public school districts. https://4201schools.org/state-budget-priorities-fy-2026-2027/
