A lot of successes this week in the classroom but none of them pictured 🙃 Hopefully more school-based pics moving forward
With only a 3-day work week we sure did get a lot done. I had my first observation Friday where we focused on hygiene and taking care of our skin with deodorant, nail filing, & lotion 💅🏻 The students enjoyed it and I would definitely do it again. This week is also the last chance for my family to move out of our apartment and into our home! Lots of driving back and forth, donating things, & selling items 😮💨 Officially turn in the keys on Tuesday.

We are over halfway through the school year and I realized I never made a post about my new job. So here goes!
I am teaching in an autism program at a non-public school in New York. Our campus has 2 school buildings. My building has the autism program which serves 11 classrooms spanning PreK through age 21 and has a model apartment students get to use monthly. My classroom is currently ages 12-15 😎
I have been learning a lot about Children’s Residential Programs as most of my students live in a residence full-time. I have also been learning a lot about transition services & pre-vocational supports for students. The school runs more like an ABA Center rather than through Standards Based Curriculum so I have been learning in this area too.
The internet is a tricky place to share these days and I want to protect myself, my coworkers, and of course my students/families, but hopefully I can share bits & pieces along the way!

Love her perspective on diagnosis and having a neurodivergent family. Though as the article corrects, ASD can be diagnosed as early as 18 months in some people.

Welcome to the neighborhood Max! Daniel Tiger is a constant free time choice for many students I have worked with so this representation is a WONDERFUL addition. Glad the show runners hired actually autistic people to work on the show too 🙌🏻
“Including autistic individuals as consultants and in the writers’ room is vitally important to ensuring authentic representation”
🎶 It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine, could you be mine, won’t you be my neighbor? 🎶
