Class of 2024 and Families-Important Scholarship Planning Information-
There will be a Virtual County Workshop this month to assist students with creating a Scholarship Action Plan on Wednesday, November 15th from 6-7 PM on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5096560252 | Meeting ID: 509 656 025. Please encourage your student to reach out to us and feel free to come into our office located in the Target wing of the Jackson Crossing Mall.
We are currently in the third season of the 4 Seasons of College Application: Scholarships! Students should start applying for scholarships now and continue applying for them until they have finished their post-secondary education. Here is a list of local scholarship opportunities that I will be talking with your student about:
Meyer Lois Franklin Scholarship - up to $5,000 - opens December 1, 2023
Jackson Community Foundation Scholarships - 1 application can apply students for up to 5 scholarships of various amounts - opens December 1, 2023
Jackson Legacy Scholarship - $1,000 for students attending Jackson College, Baker College in Jackson, or Spring Arbor University - included in the JCF Scholarship Application - opens December 1, 2023
Sigmund Foundation Scholarship - up to $5,000 - one application for students going to a traditional 2- or 4-year institution and one application for students going into the trades - opens November 1, 2023
John George Loan - up to $6,000 with 2% interest rate (note: even though this is a loan we still talk about it with the students) - opens October 1, 2023

Please note that your student’s FAFSA must be completed in order to complete the Jackson Community Foundation scholarship applications and most other scholarship applications. While the current date of when the FAFSA will be open has not been announced, it should be opening in December.
For students interested in entering the workforce or an apprenticeship after graduation, now is the time to:
Work on soft skills/interview skills
Look into job shadowing opportunities
Do a job search based on your areas of interest

Book Bingo!
A fun and interactive family event that can get the entire family involved! Children have an opportunity to win books, spend time with family, and shop at the book fair.
We are grateful your generosity, making it possible for children to explore the wonders of the book fair! Thank you for making a lasting impact on our students!
The Kiwanis Club of Brooklyn is pleased to offer 100 $10 gift certificates to the Scholastic Book Fairs (fall and spring) organized by the Columbia PTO. These gift certificates will allow for 50 students at both Columbia Elementary and Columbia Upper Elementary Schools to pick out a book or other item from the book fairs for the 2023-2024 school year.
