Happy Earth Day! 🌎 This past weekend, we held our first annual Peace Education Film Festival at the school! Students and parents watched short films that connected to the themes of environmental stewardship and climate justice, designed arts and crafts, and connected with other families over meaningful, guided discussion about the films and how to treat our planet.

Check out our 6th graders representing BHMS at the Montessori Model UN Conference! Our students joined thousands of other Montessori students from across the country as they represented the nation of Zimbabwe at the four-day conference last week. Montessori Model UN is a chance for students to join an international peer community and develop empathy, critical thinking, academic writing, public speaking, debating, negotiation, and leadership skills. Rooted in the Montessori approach while using the UN Format, the conference is designed to nurture tomorrow’s leaders through Peace Education. We are so proud of our 6th grade students for their hard work throughout the year preparing to be delegates at the conference, and especially for the speeches they delivered on their focus issues!

Missing the Winter Olympics? Well check out the Kindergarten-Lower Elementary BHMS Winter Olympics! Coaches Nadia and Lindsey led their K & LE classes through a series of winter Olympic games, including bobsledding, hockey, and curling. It was so much fun!

We’re excited to welcome Twos families into the classroom this week to join the specials in the Twos Program — Music and Library! Students are so happy to share part of their day with their parents and have them spend some time with their classmates and teachers.

Students in grades 4-8 presented their works at the annual Science Expo this morning! Middle School students all researched women scientists and scientists of color, groups that have been historically underrepresented in the field. They explored their scientist’s major contributions and the impact of their work. Upper Elementary students prepared experiments, demonstrations, and visuals to teach families about the body systems of animals, plants, and humans.

We celebrated Lunar New Year this week at a Community Meeting with some very special guests: the Chinatown Community Young Lions! CCYL is a lion dance group in Chinatown whose mission is to teach, preserve, and share Asian culture and heritage, especially among the youth. The students had an absolute blast!

This week, Lower Elementary hosted its hallmark event: Montessori in Action! At this event, students in first, second, and third grade become the teachers, each leading their own station and giving lessons to parents, caregivers, siblings, faculty, and staff. They are feeling quite proud of themselves, and deservedly so!

The Middle School held its second annual Bingo Night fundraiser last night! All the proceeds are going to support the 7th and 8th graders’ end of year city trip. Attendees ranged from our Twos students to alumni!
