Today, we concluded our Holocaust Interdisciplinary Project in collaboration with author Liza Wiemer and the ADL. Through Padlet, students reflected on the impactful book, The Assignment, as well as their memorable visit from Liza Wiemer herself. We were deeply moved by the heartfelt messages these students shared in our Zoom session. Many emphasized the significance of being an upstander and the power of using your voice for good. As one student wisely noted, "Silence is compliance."

🌟 Girls & STEM: Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Science and Technology
Every great innovation starts with curiosity. Every breakthrough discovery begins with someone asking "What if?" — and we believe that someone could be you.

The Power of Seeing Yourself in STEM
For too long, girls have been told that STEM careers weren't "for them." But that narrative is changing. The Girls & STEM Virtual Conference happening in soon is proof that the future of science, engineering, and technology belongs to all of us — including the brilliant young women in your school.

This isn't just another conference. It's an opportunity for 7th and 8th-grade girls to connect with real women engineers and scientists who are actively shaping the world. These aren't just distant role models — they're living proof that girls belong in STEM, and that a career in these fields is not only possible, it's powerful.

Why This Matters
Research shows that when girls see women succeeding in STEM, their confidence soars. They begin to envision themselves in these roles. They start to believe that they, too, can discover, create, and lead.

Whether it's developing life-saving medical technology, protecting our planet through environmental science, building the next generation of artificial intelligence, or engineering solutions to global challenges — the world needs the talent, perspective, and innovation that girls bring to STEM.

Are you excited about the Girls & STEM Virtual Conference happening today? Here's your quick prep checklist to make sure everything runs smoothly:

✅ Before You Log In
Update Your Zoom Make sure you're running the latest version of Zoom. (7.0) Updates often include important security patches and performance improvements — you don't want technical glitches derailing your experience!

Charge Your Device Plug in your laptop, tablet, or computer now. The last thing you need is a dead battery mid-session. Consider keeping your charger nearby just in case.

Test Your Headphones: Students attending, should have headphones ready. This ensures everyone can hear clearly and minimizes classroom distractions. Do a quick audio check beforehand!

Print Your 3-2-1 Graphic Organizers For each session you're attending, have a 3-2-1 graphic organizer on hand. This is a fantastic tool to help students capture:

3 key takeaways
2 interesting facts or questions
1 way they'll apply what they learned
Having these printed and ready helps students stay engaged and reflective throughout the day.

💡 Pro Tip
Consider having students fill out their organizers during the session to keep them actively listening and thinking critically about the content.

Today marks the final day of Liza Week. Our last two sessions at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy Queens NY and St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy were among the most impactful. We engaged in an important discussion about antisemitism and the book "The Assignment." The students were eager to ask Liza Wiemer, "Who reported that the assignment was completed?"

Liza's response was: "Any one of those students could have done it. It takes just one person to be an upstander."

Day three of Liza Week was marked by a powerful and thought-provoking conversation. The discussion began with the topic of antisemitism, the importance of being an upstander, and the sobering realization that history can, in fact, repeat itself. This made for an especially impactful visit. One young student at St. Brigid-St.Frances Cabrini Catholic Academy, Brooklyn, NY, observed, "We as a society use words that hurt now more than ever because it is normalized." Liza Wiemer's central message reinforced this point: while that may be true, change begins with you. Stand up to those who say hurtful things and be the change our world needs. Students of Notre Dame Catholic Academy of Ridgewood expressed the importance of this.
