On Graduation Day for the Class of 2026, we highlight our Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
"Hosting The Eagle Experience Podcast with my co-host Stephanie Del Gaizo has most uniquely prepared me for college. It is common knowledge that college is unique due to the independence it fosters. College requires you to be self-motivated and disciplined to succeed. Through having the opportunity to create and host The Eagle Experience Podcast with my peers, I learned what it felt like to be actively involved in every aspect of a creative project. I learned how to be self-motivated and independent through my involvement in doing everything from filming and editing to emailing and scheduling interviews. I learned to manage my free time and to find balance between academics, extracurriculars, and independent projects. Furthermore, I learned these skills in a safe and supportive environment that uplifted me when I slipped and made mistakes. Overall, the experience I gained and the lessons I learned through The Eagle Experience will be invaluable in college, especially as I strive to get into medical school. I am most proud of my involvement in volunteer activities, like the Street Corner Gourmet and the Day of Service. Each of those activities were extremely important as they provided help to people less fortunate than me. I'm very proud of how I am able to make a difference in the community through these experiences." - Valedictorian Madison Daughtry attending Boston College majoring in Neuroscience
"The IB program prepared me for college through the various research projects and rigorous courses. They pushed me to develop my skills and use my abilities in ways I never expected. I thank the entire SEP Family - students, faculty, staff, parents and friends - that made our accomplishments possible" - Salutatorian Russell Zehmisch attending Indiana University majoring in Finance.

"Ms. Howell has been one of the most influential and supportive figures throughout my college preparation process. I genuinely loved her classes and always looked forward to her assignments because the books we read and the perspectives she encouraged us to explore constantly pushed me to think outside the box. She encouraged us to analyze literature through cultural and scarcity lenses. Through her lessons, I began to realize that literature reflects much larger cultural issues. As a result, I not only became more interested in current global and cultural issues, but I also developed a new way of reading and interpreting literature that I still carry with me today. As I prepare to study International Studies in Washington, D.C., I recognize how important Ms. Howell’s classes have been in shaping both my academic interests and my future goals. My career aspiration is to advocate for and support immigrant communities, and I truly believe I would not be entering this field with the same level of empathy and cultural awareness without the foundation her classes provided me." - Valerie Dresda, attending American University, majoring in International Studies
"Being a part of Father Mark's college accounting class prepared me for college responsibilities and assignments. Father Mark helped me realize that being honest with a teacher will always benefit me in the long run. College accounting was a class that truly made me feel prepared for what will be expected of me in a college classroom. " Cristopher Adams, majoring in Nursing at Wagner College

"Mr. Wagner's IB Physics I and II was by far the most unique class I have ever taken in my life, but it prepared me so well. Although it was very difficult, I have never had a teacher who has wanted to connect with his students and clearly wanted us all to succeed. Although the actual subject was extremely difficult, Mr. Wagner made it fun, and gave me a reason to want to succeed. This class showed me how there is help available and when you seek help out it makes things much easier. It also showed me that when you put the work into something, especially something difficult, then it is very rewarding when you succeed. I am most proud of how involved I was during my four years of high school. I played three sports for four years, and through that I made so many connections, and learned so much. I was able to truly prepare myself by giving myself the most rigorous schedule I could. I was able to make so many friends and was able to make so many memories at St. Edmund." James Leahy, majoring in Business Management at Loyola University Maryland
"Mrs. Carr and Mr. Cripanuk’s economics classes really helped me understand the real cost of college. Mrs. Carr also shared helpful advice from her kids’ experiences with college and the whole process, which made it more real for me. Their guidance really helped me think more clearly about my major and where I want to go to school next year. I feel like they gave me really good advice that will help guide me in the right direction. I am proud that I kept my head up and kept moving forward no matter what challenges I faced." Carmine Corona, attending Brooklyn College majoring in Psychology

"Dr Unger's help with the holocaust writing competition allowed me to go to Columbia University, source information, and produce a quality submission, just as I would do in college. Being able to represent my school and demonstrate my passion for my future career leaves me filled with gratitude for all that St. Edmund Prep has given me." - Anthony Samoylov attending the The City College of New York majoring in Mechanical Engineering
"Every teacher in SEP has had their own influence on me and made an impact I'll never forget. But one teacher specifically had a special kind of an impact was Mrs. DeLeon. Mrs DeLeon allowed me to become more confident and have the motivation to want to learn and understand Spanish. She not only helped me excel in the classroom, she has helped me outside of the classroom as well. She provided her constant support and unwavering belief in me. This experience has prepared me for college by teaching me the importance of confidence, perseverance, and asking questions when I need help. Mrs. DeLeon created an environment where I felt comfortable stepping outside of my comfort zone and challenging myself academically. Because of her encouragement, I learned to believe in my abilities and became more motivated to grow as a student. She inspired me to approach new challenges with determination and a positive mindset. As I enter college, I will remember all the lesson each and every SEP teacher helped build into me that will continue to guide me both inside and outside of the classroom as I continue my next chapter. " - Julia Cammareri attending LIU (Long Island University) majoring in Health Science

"Mrs. McGinnis' IB HOTA class has definitely prepared me for the rigors of the college curriculum, such as research papers and exams. I am proud of performing on stage as the drummer for the SEP Big Band. Looking back on those moments, I can now appreciate the growth I have experienced and those who made it possible. Thank you SEP, for pushing me to be the best version of myself in and out of the classroom. " - James Friscia attending West Point - The U.S. Military Academy majoring in Electrical Engineering.

On this Memorial Day, we remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for our freedoms.
“…And if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men and women, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice." - Ronald Reagan
