Urban Media Aesthetics

Urban Media Aesthetics Urban Media Aesthetics is a platform for research, reflection and critical discussion on media-based art forms in urban environments.

www.urbanmediaaesthetics.org

Its ongoing research is conducted through interviews with curators, artists, architects, cultural planners and artistic producers, who through their practices have contributed to the shaping of a discourse, which is also the territory of possibilities for future practices. The platform facilitates various public events based on the issues brought up in the underlying

research and interviews, through screenings, salons and urban art installations, in partnership with various platforms and communities for art, technology and architecture. It also facilitates a series of critical writing responses, which from multiple viewpoints in this territory investigate themes and subjects particularly relevant to urban media aesthetics now, and finally a growing resource database that links to titles and references underpinning the research for this platform. The project is launched in December 2013 with the topic Confronting Spectacle, which is investigated through a documentary film screening and disussion at Harvestworks, a guest salon for Leaders in Software and Art in New York City, and a series of critical writing responses to this topic. The guest LISA salon will be the first of a series of future salons for discussions on various critical aspects of urban media aesthetics. Urban Media Aesthetics is initiated by Tanya Toft who is a Ph.D. Fellow at Copenhagen University and in 2012/2013 a participant at CuratorLab at Konstfack University, Stockholm.
