Today we had the honor of welcoming Rohan Murphy to our Upper School campus. He shared his incredible stories of resilience and finding intrinsic motivation with our students. We were all moved to hear about his journey to Penn State’s wrestling team and witness his incredible positive energy!

Shout out to Michael who volunteered to do push ups with Mr. Murphy on stage!

Today, we celebrate a milestone. 77% of our high school students overall received AP Scholar honors after the May 2026 exams. To provide some context, nationwide only about 10% of students earn the distinction of AP Scholar or higher by the time they graduate (based on historic data provided by the College Board).

With an average AP score of 4.08 (with a score of 3 to pass and 5 as the highest score possible), and a passing rate of 98%, our high school students at BASIS Independent Brooklyn have set the bar high yet again. We admire their dedication and hard work, resulting in exceptional academic outcomes. Also, join us in celebrating their amazing teachers and supportive families for nurturing such talented students.

We could not be prouder. Read more in our blog:

Our Varsity Girls Soccer team took to the field for their first game and came away with a win, giving it their all from the opening whistle. Coach Allison couldn't be prouder of the team!

Now let's just make sure our Bears have the best cheer squad in the league. Come out and show your support at an upcoming game. Many upcoming matches will be held at the Red Hook Fields, making it easy to cheer on our Bears!

A big thank you to the Ajmani family for the great photos capturing the match!

We are humbled today to share that BASIS Independent Brooklyn was recognized as the #6 Best Private K-12 School in the country and #6 Best Private High School in New York, among many other accolades. Hispanic Heritage Month: Stop by Ms. Corio’s Grade 8 Spanish class near the end of the period, and you will hear some wonderful music for the next few weeks! She’s hosting a Hispanic Heritage Music Madness challenge to introduce her students to a wide range of musical styles from Spanish-speaking countries around the world. We love seeing creative ways to make learning engaging while celebrating culture!

Last Friday, our Cubs dressed up and walked the red carpet into school! To keep the back-to-school excitement going, we host Fancy Friday shortly after the first day, and our teachers and administrators get in on the fun. Fancy was whatever each person wanted it to be, and we saw everything from Halloween costumes to ballgowns and three-piece suits.

This year, in addition to paparazzi, we had some red carpet correspondents on the scene. Stay tuned for an incredibly cute reel coming soon, thanks to the amazing Ms. Reilly!

Second Grade Sign In! Our second grade Cubs kicked off the new school year with a creative twist. Our amazing Lower School Art & Engineering Teacher, Ms. Porter, designed a hands-on way for our oldest Cubs to sign in to Grade 2 during the first week of school. Simple ideas, big smiles watching them seemingly write their names directly over our camera lens.

Next school year, these Cubs will head to our Upper School campus. In the meantime, they are our role models and an example to our younger Cubs at the Lower School.
