Big news for the new school year! Our bus routes are getting a legendary upgrade. Say hello to the Roman Gods and Goddesses! From Jupiter to Venus, every route now has a name worthy of Mount Olympus.

Thank you to our Head of Operations at the Upper School, Mr. Josephson, and our incredible team of bus attendants (alongside some of our drivers) for bringing this mythical makeover to life.

Our Chess Team is full of students who love the game and enjoy spending time together. We asked a few of our Chess Bears to share why they love the game to help promote our “Pizza, Pasta, & Chess” event tomorrow from 5-7 p.m. ET at our Upper School campus with our amazing ICN Brooklyn coaches!

Students in Gr.1-12 interested in chess should stop by. This will be a low-key, open play evening to get the ball rolling for an epic 2026-27 school year of BASIS Independent Brooklyn chess. All levels are welcome, and past, present, and future team members are encouraged to join.

SUMMER CAMP SNAPSHOTS: Our Day Campers are having a blast this summer, and we appreciate our counselors helping capture the fun! Summer is a time of exploring and building friendships. That's exactly what is happening at our Lower School, which recently had a "Tell Me A Story" themed week.

Campers wrote and made their own books, dressed up as their favorite characters... all while enjoying games and having fun outdoors.

Senior Project Spotlight:
For her Senior Project, Jasmine S. ‘26 set out to design a mural for our school. She interviewed students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and parents to uncover themes and imagery that would truly resonate with our community.

We are honored to share her stunning mural with you today! Thank you, Jasmine, for dedicating your time and talent to leaving behind a wonderful legacy at our school.

Jasmine is headed to Cornell University where she will pursue a degree in Human Biology. We have a hunch that she will also continue to find ways share her love of the arts while there! Many thanks to her Senior Project faculty advisor, Mr. Opirhory, and her external advisor, Mr. Marco Santini of Impact Artist.

Our 2026-2027 Communications Journals, which we call CJs, have arrived!!! Thank you to our Student Affairs teams for letting us film the unboxing.

Helping students manage their time and schoolwork is essential to our academic model. One of the most important tools in developing lifelong habits of self-direction and disciplined, critical inquiry is the CJ.

At first glance, it looks like a daily planner, but during the school year it becomes the epicenter of our students’ education, a record of their past and upcoming responsibilities, and it is a way to keep track of progress.

Thank you to all our great student artists who submitted CJ cover art, too! The CJs look amazing this year!

MEMORY MONDAY: Our PreK and Kindergarten students loved this visit to the Historic Richmond Town’s Decker Farm. Our city Cubs learned all about life on a farm and the crops grown there.

From hayrides to pumpkin picking, it was an amazing time.

Senior Project Spotlight: Large Language Models offer incredible new ways to analyze data for the therapeutic benefit of patients. Our Senior River W. ‘26 worked with a team at Memorial Sloan Kettering to log 4 million oncology notes into one of the largest clinico-genomic adverse events datasets. River then used the dataset to investigate the biological mechanisms of immunotherapy-induced adverse events to identify genes associated with them. The clinical implications are very promising, and hopefully, with further research, this work will help oncologists determine which patients are at high risk of immunotherapy-induced adverse events.

This fall, River will continue to pursue his interests in biomedical computation and philosophy at Stanford University. He is grateful to his Senior Project faculty advisor, Dr. Hamzawsky, and his off-site advisor, Dr. Resnick, for their guidance and support.
