As it turns out, Mrs. Hirsh passed away on 12/29/11 and was laid to rest on 1/1/12. May she REST IN PEACE.

I had Mrs. Hirsh as a teacher from September 1985 to June of 1987. Yes, two years in a row! I remember her being a very strict and proud teacher. I also remember all of her famous sayings, such as "I will sit on you and squash you like a lemon" or her talking about "ishkabibble", which until this day I had no idea what it meant, until I Google'd it. There were a couple of definitions, such as ishkabibble was a comedian and it also meant "garbage or bu****it". I would give anything to know what context Mrs. Hirsh was using the word in.

Anytime, the class of 1988 got together or PS 272 was discussed, Mrs. Hirsh's name always came up. I was even talking about her on New Years Eve to a friend, that didn't go to PS 272, but had Mrs. Hirsh shop in his store. That's right, Mrs. Hirsh was not only known for her teaching skills, but when she was out and about, people always knew she was there. I have heard stories about her in the bank, in the pharmacy and many real estate stories, too. Classmates always talked about asking her to come to a reunion, but we were not sure if she would remember us or not.

I guess at this point all we have are our memories of Mrs. Hirsh and all we can do is pray for her soul. RIP Mrs. Hirsh. Thank you for shaping us into the tough son's of bi***es that we are.
