I’m really proud of something that feels small on the surface… but is actually foundational.

Most community art centers support themselves with galleries.
Students take classes for years, build skill, build confidence… and eventually — maybe — sell their work on the back end of their student journey.

And that’s beautiful. It supports artists when they’re ready.

But what about the very beginning of their student experience?

What about the moment when someone signs up for their first class and realizes they have no idea what to buy?

The part where they walk into an art store and feel completely overwhelmed.
Forty types of brushes. Endless paper options. Brands they’ve never heard of.
It’s expensive. It’s intimidating. And it quietly stops people before they even start.

So we built something different.

Kate’s Art School is directly connected to — our curated art supply store.

Not a giant warehouse of options.
Not aisles of guesswork.
But a narrowed, intentional collection of what we actually teach with.

The store doesn’t exist to profit off the finished artist.
It exists to support the beginning artist.

To remove friction.
To eliminate overwhelm.
To say: “Here. Start with this. You’ll be okay.”

You bring your supplies into this wide open classroom — and if you forgot something, it’s ten steps away.

I’ve only ever seen this kind of integration at the university level.
But beginners deserve that infrastructure too.

We don’t just celebrate artists when they’re ready to sell.
We support them when they’re just trying to begin.

And that feels important.

Something Beautiful Is Coming…

Kate’s Art School is quietly preparing for an upcoming acrylic artist retreat — a chance to step away from daily life and spend meaningful time creating, exploring, and connecting through art.

This retreat will be for those who feel excited to…
• Gently challenge yourself to spend meaningful time painting
• Create work inspired by your surroundings
• Spend a few days surrounded by fellow creatives
• Travel somewhere beautiful within the United States
• Journey together as a small, connected group

No prior acrylic painting experience is required — beginners are welcome.
Because this is a guided learning experience, participants will need to have completed Drawing 100, which is currently enrolling.

Hi! I’m Kate, your instructor here at Kate’s Art School!

With a BA in Visual Arts Education and 17 years of experience teaching and exhibiting nationally, I’ve taught everywhere from international classrooms to community art centers. I opened Kate’s Art School to create a space where adults could grow creatively, step by step, no shortcuts, no pressure, just real progress.

As we focus more deeply on adult classes and art retreats, I’m excited to bring my love of art, travel, and culture together in new ways. Whether you’re brand new at art or rediscovering a passion, you are welcome here.
